Thinking about a CCL & gun, suggestions?

Here is a link to the correct version...although out of stock currently.

Tombstone Tactical is another good source for economical prices and free shipping.

This is the CORRECT model XDG9801HCSP I would recommend.

Found some of the correct model XDG9801HCSP in STOCK....here for $497 with no CC fees or tax. Priority mail shipping to an FFL of your choice is $15.00 making the total $512.99 delivered.
You can use their FFL locator button to find an FFL near you to handle the transfer. Usually a $20-$25 transfer fee is normal bringing the grand total to $532.99 - $537.99 approximately.

Be aware also that Springfield is running a special that ends tomorrow night that provides a range bag...two additional magazines.... and a twin mag holder for free, with a purchase dated prior to midnight 12/31/2015.
Springfield claims an added value of about $135.00....

In reality...the mags are worth $25 each...the mag holder about $20...and the range bag about $30...so a total of approximately $100. Still a good promotion ..IF...the purchase is made...with a dated receipt prior to tomorrow night.

I usually wear a 5 shot .38 snubby in a Galco Ankle Glove when wearing business pants in warmer weather. In cooler weather I most often carry a CZ 2075 9mm sub-compact. 14 rounds with the extended magazine (it's a magazine, not a clip). The extended magazine also offers a full 3 finger grip. The 10 round mag makes it small enough for paddle holster carry under a sweatshirt.

There is plenty of good info above on weapons & sources so I'll stay out of that. Grabagun is one of my old favorites. I purchased both my AR and M4 from them and have always been happy with the prices and service. Grabagun has the Springfield XD Mod.2 Sub-Compact Black 40SW 3-inch 12Rd pistol on sale for $473.80 and it's in stock.

The SW .40 is a lot of cartridge for a 3" sub-compact but bigger guys should be able to handle it. You can get on the list for out of stock items but you have to decide ahead of time that you are going to act if you are fortunate enough to get the notice while at your computer. Everyone on the list gets notifyed at the same time and sometimes it takes just seconds to sell outmes.

For your convenience, anything you buy online can be shipped to Hot Brass Firearms at my business address here in Kirkwood. Matthew will charge you $35 to take care of the paperwork which has to be done after 5pm. Many of the sources already have Hot Brass on their list of FFL holders, if not I can e-mail you the FFL in .PDF form for you to forward to the vendor. It's that easy and it's quiet around here after 5 instead of waiting in line somewhere.

Join the NRA weather you buy a gun or not. They are fighting the good fight for all of us every day in many ways.

Tom, nice site, have never seen it before. I have a CZ 2075 Rami BD on the way. A some what hard gun to find, so I jumped on it when I found one.

I'm glad you found one Rich, they don't seem to pop up very often. I'm sure you will like it, it's really feels good in the hand and is easy to control for fast follow up shots. The feed ramp is steep and it can be picky with some hollow points. Don't buy any Hornady XP for it. I load a 115 grain Ranier that it likes a lot. It has a wider HP opening but it is rounder leading up to it. Mine was originally a polymer frame gun. After a while I began to dislike the look of the frame and when I contacted CZ USA to ask about the cost of changing it over to an alloy frame they immediately offered a no charge swap and sent a Fedex pickup label. Turned out they were trying to get all of the poly framed guns back because of a frame bulge on one that could have become a problem. Poly frames are no longer available. I chose the safety over the decocker like the original pistol had but a decocker would serve me just as well since I don't carry this gun condition1 I carry this one condition 2 because the safety is so slim. I bought some smooth rosewood grips with Punisher emblems inset from Thailand. I have to see how it handles without the rubber grips to know if I will keep them on the pistol but they sure are pretty. Enjoy your 2075!

Grab a Gun has the Smith and Wesson Shield, 9mm, 3 1/8 inch BL, 7 and 8RD magazines, 3 Dot sights for $379. The new hard to find at the moment Performance Center Shield came out recently so the originals are a great deal. This is what Andy carries daily, inside the waistband weather in the truck or on the Harley. This replaced his Ruger LC9 that got brass fouling on the firing pin and stopped firing without warning. It happened at the range and when we got home I gave him my S&W 3913 to carry until he could trade the POS in. I have nothing against Ruger and suspect it was an individual gun malady. Still, It couldn't be trusted as a carry gun again.

$5.99 shipping, $35 for paperwork and you have a good start for $419.99

Well done Mark...and great timing as the Mod 2 is again out of stock at Grab a gun.
I suspected they would sell out quickly at that price.

Thanks Again Kerry for the recommendation!
I was on the GrabAGun mailing list and knew I would need to act fast when they sent the email that they were back in stock at tat price.
Tom is helping me thru the FFL process and UPS says it should be in by Monday.
Can't wait!

If you haven't already....Don't forget to order a PD-XD grip extension for the magazine:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pearce-PG-X...441812?hash=item463d5130d4:g:rB8AAOSw9N1VoBfA

Make sure it is the PD-XD only for the Mod 2 as they make a similar but different one that is marked PD-XD45

You will be very happy with the final combination...!

For those who were following this thread last December...as many of you have observed...the recent shootings and unrest in the country has driven gun prices through the roof recently at both the retail and wholesale levels.

The Springfield XD Mod 2 that was under $440 from Grab a Gun at that time...is now $509 delivered.

Prices have been crazy with many suppliers out of stock.

However...If anyone had an interest in a Springfield XD Mod 2 9mm for concealed carry....you have one more opportunity to get a pre-feeding frenzy price...for one day only.

Rural King Guns is offering this handgun for $449.99...delivered to a local Rural King store. The closest for most of you would be the store in Wentzville...or possibly the store here in Farmington.

You would simply order on line at the link below...and identify which store you want it delivered to. When it comes in to the store in a few day...they will call you and you simply go to the store to fill out a form 4473 for background check and pick it up a few minutes later. You will have to pay local tax but it still ends up being cheaper than buying from any of the online distributors I have been following.

Hopefully anyone in the club who has perhaps been on the fence for a CCW pistol will benefit from this last minute opportunity.

Really like this gun, just need to get out and shot it some more. (Summer has been kinda busy)
Thanks again Kerry.

ok, to continue this thread a step further, I'm now interested in a CCL handgun for Ann. Can't say that she will carry it (that is my goal for her)
I'd like suggestions for a smaller, female hand and lighter (if possible). No Pink guns, though.
Suggestions? If I can get her buy-in, I want to get her to a range and CCL class as well.

Thanks guys!

Mark,

I would have her try a Ruger LC380, Ruger LC9 or Keltec PF9.
See which of them fits her hand the best and which she feels most comfortable holding and pointing. I suspect she will prefer the Ruger as it has slightly better ergonomics than the Keltec.

I carried the Keltec PF9 for years as a summer shorts pocket gun and it worked well...but it has a fair amount of snap to it with 9mm and might be uncomfortable for Ann to shoot. That is the downside of a lighter more compact handgun.
Hopefully the gun she carries is one that she is not afraid to shoot regularly for training and weapon familiarity.

A .380 would be the smallest caliber I could recommend and it will only marginally have less recoil than a 9mm.
However with a quality copper projectile such as a Hornady HXP...it can be effective for self defense.

I would not consider a .32ACP or even a .22 long rifle or .22 magnum as they simply are not consistently effective. Shot placement becomes critical and with an inexperience shooter it would not be a reliable man stopper.
Stick with a .380 or 9mm.

I would also not consider a small revolver. The heavy double action trigger is hard to master for good accuracy and you are limited to 5 to 6 rounds with tactical reloads being slow and awkward even for an experienced shooter.
Small revolvers also tend to be heavier than small semi autos with polymer frames. Plus it is hard to find a revolver that has good ergonomics. Grips are simply too small and too short. From a safety issue an exposed hammer on a revolver in a womans purse is an invitation for an unintended discharge. Yet with a bobbed hammer you are limited to double action only. Further a .38 special is not a very potent round until you get to a +P and then the recoil becomes an issue.

Stick with an ergonomic small semi auto. The more comfortable in her hand...the better.

I'm bumping this thread because I have a question.

I am looking to buy a CC 9mm. I have sort of narrowed down the choices to a SW M&P Mod 2 and a Sig Sauer P365. I have fired both. The Sig seems head and shoulders above the SW. I have not tried the Springfield XD Mod 2 discussed earlier in this thread.

The question I have is on thumb safeties. The SW can be bought with a safety, the Sig cannot. If you are conceal carrying a semi automatic without a thumb safety, do you do so with a round already chambered?

Any suggestions, comments?

Bob

Xd has a grip and trigger safety.
Yes I carry chambered. If I need it it one less thing to remember!
Neither one of my carry guns have a thumb safety

Bob, I'm a CZ fan. I have 3, P-09, P-07, and a Rami. Sized from full frame down to compact, all 9mm. If you want to try them out, come to the bonfire early
