Trailer Shopping

For what you're using it for, THIS would be fine. Not saying all e track is created equal, but, this is fine.

I'm not sure it makes a lot of difference. The only one I questioned was the X patterned one, felt maybe too much metal opened up, lack of strength??

Tim, in your review you touch on tire pressures, you won't change fuel mileage much with tire pressures but low pressure on a trailer tire will build alot of heat and cause many tire problems. Most trailer tires have a speed rating of 65mph you can increase that by adding air pressures or some trailer tires have a higher speed rating, but they are costly. Just something to think about.

Okay, so I’ve reached out to 61 Trailers, Newline, and Hall Trailer.

I’m getting tired of waiting for a response. Not sure anyone wants to do the work to order a trailer for me.

Here’s the spec list:
  1. 28 foot long box
  2. 8.5 feet wide
  3. 7+ feet inside
  4. Beaver tail
  5. Cam-bar locking mechanism on doors
  6. Tandem 5200 torsion axles
  7. Electric brakes on both axles
  8. Dual escape doors
  9. Man door curb side front
  10. Recessed E Track - floor mount 60” on center
  11. Electric jack
  12. Stabilizer jacks
  13. Interior lights
  14. Extended tongue
  15. Salem vents
  16. Charcoal exterior
  17. .040 outside skin
  18. Roof vent/ or AC framing for future AC
Any recommendations on other trailer companies?

Also, any suggestions on things I haven’t thought about or that I don’t need? I realize that’s really subjective, who NEEDS 28 feet, but that’s what I WANT. 🤣

Thanks, Steve

I just ordered and picked up a 16' from Newline. My order was simple in that I wanted a 6'6" tall so that was probably pretty easy to get. They were able to get it in 3 weeks. I feel like most of what they sell is standard configurations but I don't know that for a fact.

Thanks Greg, I used their online contact form and all I got back was a marketing email asking me to visit their local dealer??? Why have an online contact form???

Hall trailer emailed and said they would “reach out to their rep”, it’s been a week…

61 Trailers got me an initial quote on a 24’ in a couple of days, I asked them about a 28’ and have been waiting since August 26th for a quote. I sent a “just checking in” email after the first week and every two or three days after that. I stopped doing that last week.

There was a sales development speaker at a business group I belong to last week, part of his process is to secret shop his clients. He stated that only 20% of inquiries even get a response. I believe him.

The guy at Newline told me he sells every 16' he gets, my guess is the margin is about the same on a standard config and it's less work than selling a custom so they just let them slide.

Call hwy 61 and ask to speak to Danielle. It did take her a little over a week to get me my quote, but as she explained to me, it's the mfr's that don't reply. I told her that I expected her to at least reply with what the delay was. She understood. They are a small business, don't give up on them.

Danielle is who I’ve been emailing with. On one of her last emails she said “I’m still waiting for my boss to get back to me”. I will email one more time.

But if you can make up margin with volume, with little to no work it all comes out the same.
Very true, however it doesn’t seem to be that much extra work to get a quote from the factory and order it, BWTHDIK

Plus, as a former business owner I know that ill-will is seldom worth what you pay for it.

Steve, in stead of an overhead a/c unit have you given any thought to a mini split unit. I say this because my nephew put one on his race trailer and it works great and on the plus side it has heat.

Now that’s an idea, thanks.

Where did he put the condensing unit.

I totally agree. The trailers that Newline sells are Yellowstone, on the Yellowstone website they describe a race trailer package that might include some of the things you are looking for. Maybe they would be more responsive to ordering packaged products. But I'm sure you would still have to add some things.

If you really want to do it right, Look at this: AeroVault Trailers

Hooray, I finally found someone to actually sell me a trailer.

I’m sorry for the long post, feel free to ignore it, you won’t hurt my feelings.

First let me start with an axiom that has served me well in sales, business, and personal transactions:

“If a person or company is difficult to communicate with when you want to give them money, then what is going to happen if they think it might cost them money?”

Back to my trailer: After leaving Wood’s Detailing on Saturday, I drove east on Pitman Rd past Nationwide Trailers and Big Tex to see what I could see.

When I got home I went to their websites and filled out contact forms.

Big Tex replied first with an automated response email saying they would be in contact within 24 hours. Since it was Saturday afternoon I didn’t expect that to happen. 4 days later and nothing, I am still waiting.

Monday morning at 7:58AM I received an email from a young man named Jordan Harvey at Nationwide Trailers thanking me for my inquiry and letting me know he would have a quote for me shortly.

At 10:57 he texted me the quote.

I asked the brand (Spartan), and went to their website to look at options.

Tuesday I went to Nationwide’s location to go over some of the available options and ended up upgrading the axles to 7,000 lb. and adding a generator door and enclosure.

Today, Wednesday, at 9:08AM Jordan texted me with the revised quote, by 3 in the afternoon I had signed the paperwork and given Jordan a deposit.

And THAT is how you sell.

I would highly recommend Jordan Harvey at Nationwide Trailer to anyone in the market. He has sales awards on his desk that he has obviously earned.

He is a hungry young man with a beautiful young family to feed. He didn’t waste any time, mine or his.

He knows that he’s not in the trailer business, he is in the sales business, he makes his living SELLING trailers.

For anyone keeping score on this odyssey:
  1. Before Nationwide closed the deal I was waiting for a quote from 61 Trailers, ironically, Mark Sieh finally got me a quote yesterday, Tuesday, at 3pm, 28 days after my inquiry about upgrading to a 28’ trailer and 5 hours after my quote from Jordan at nationwide. He’s getting an email response tonight thanking him and letting him know I already purchased a trailer.
  2. I had emailed Hall Trailers on September 15th and received a “we’re working on it” response. On the 19th I sent a “just checking in” email. She said “I apologize on the delay. We are still waiting on the quote from our rep. She should have it sent over by the end of the day. I will send it as soon as I get it”. A week later and still nothing, crickets.
  3. Newline sent me a marketing email with no additional follow up, again crickets.
  4. Viper sent me an automated email response a week ago Thursday saying “Thank you for your interest! We will be in touch with you shortly regarding your inquiry.” Since then no follow up, more crickets.
  5. Big Tex, still waiting, yeah crickets (or maybe tinnitus, I can’t be sure)
I’m sorry for the long post, but customer service and business are passions of mine.

90% of success in business is just showing, the other 10% is doing what you said you would do.

Again, Jordan Harvey at Nationwide Trailers has my enthusiastic recommendation for all things trailer related.
