Wheel well clearance

I have about 1"-1.5" of clearance between my tire and fender well. I have my ride-height set correctly, but wonder if the suspension will travel enough to have the tire rub the fender?

Does anyone know how much room they have?

Not Sure about FFRs

But I have about 1.5 inches of clearance too. But, when the suspension loads - it the goes inside of the wheelwell and does not rub the fender. And. yes sometimes I hit a bump / dip in the road where my tires rub the inside. So, do your tires stick out past the wheel opening?

I just checked your gallery. It couldn't hurt to raise that rear end about an inch.

Mark,

It would hit the inside of the wheel well. I am going to switch out my front shocks this winter, so I will probably raise it then. Although the front is my main concern.

Craig,
I run my ride height fairly low and you can see from this picture that the sidewalls are pretty much even with the fender lip. I have never rubbed a front wheel. When the suspension compresses, the wheel goes to negative camber and clears the body. Your offset may be different so try it where you are and raise if needed. Tom

Thanks,

I like the look of where it is at now. I think I will try it, until at least I get an alignment.

Here’s a question for the experts.
I have 315 / 35ZR17 Eagle F1 on the front of the car. My tires are protruding about 1 inch and the clearance is closer than I would like is this typical on the wheels extending past the edge of the fender and can one adjust the height of the fender off the tire ? I have a feeling the quick Jack mounts pretty much lock the body in place. Adjusting the shocks Will only affect the camber ?

I'm not and expert but 315's on the front is the problem. Most people run 245-255's up front. Only time I've seen 315's was when someone widened the body.

I wouldn't be surprised to see you have tire rubbing issues when turning. Way too big for the front. What size rim is it mounted on?

I’ll have to check the rims to be sure. Whatever came with the FF Kit. Those F1 are $$ may have to look at Tire Rack for something narrower.

Whoa baby...315’s on FRONT...too big hands down...this is what GRACIE runs on the rears... and 245’s were hard to find, so my guy said bump up to 255’s, no problem... that’s what I did...all are NITTO 555’s (great tire) was a Goodyear guy F1, but stopped making them! CHECK...SIMPLETIRE.com

Correction on my tires. The 315 is on the rear I have 275 17 on the front and that’s the problem area. I have 9” rims but it’s looking like I would have to drop down to an 8” rim and 225 45 17 rubber for it to fit. What’s everyone running ?
Plus, since I dragged my butt so long on finishing this project Good Year doesn’t even make the F1 anymore. lol

275/45/17's are what I run all around on 9" wheels. If you use Rich's theory, you may notice that the tire protrudes out one side, but not the other (my case) and according to Rich, you can't see both sides at the same time :D

As it stands the tire is close to the edge of the wheel well. Somewhere it’s probably going to rub and there goes the paint. I’m not crazy about buying new rims and tires.
It’s a process I guess.

I'm pretty sure mine is 9in rims in the front and 245 40 17 tires have no clearance problem. Need to know offset of your wheels, Kent D has a little problem with his wheels being offset to the outside. Don't know if he has done anything about that this winter.

Adjusting the shocks don't change the alignment unless it's a large adjustment. Have you HAD an alignment and what specs did you use? The suspension moves very little, I'd be surprised if it rubbed. Has the body shop trimmed the wheel arches correctly, no inner lip.

x2 what Rich said, also, you bought a pretty standard MK4 with the FFR front suspension including the improved FFR spindles and the FFR wheels, which should be 9" front and 10.5" rears with the proper offset, this should be an FFR no brainer. As Rich said, and I notified you when you went to a body guy that is not familiar with FFR MK4, make sure the wheel lips are trimmed all the way back. If you aren't familiar with this they must be trimmed. Check Jeff's post here (post #28)

255s up front with zero issues on my mk3! Caster and camber can play issues with rubbing as well.
