Trailering

I'm available tomorrow afternoon...say around 3pm? My office is at 94 and I-64, so I'll leave straight from there.

Just to add my two cents.
1. If you lower the roof your ramp door will be shortened, look at race ramps. Don't know if dovetail will fix this problem.
2. Would not go shorter than 16ft, have extra room to carry some tools and misc. stuff. Plus my car is at the back door and the tongue weight is just right, tows great.
3. Really don't need a diesel to tow this set up, but I don't plan on giving up my 3/4 ton diesel for towing, just saying.

We should have a tow off between the 3/4 Diesel and the 1/2 ton F150...just to see...Oh, and Mike's new Jeep :D

Tim great with me / 3pm - calling for rain after 5pm or so?.....come out 64 to Lake Saint Louis exit.....down exit stay right....straight....thru light - to stop sign - continue straight - past Fire House, next stop sign is FOXTRAIL - GO LEFT...back 8 streets on LEFT...GO LEFT to 4th house / see trailer....

Rick,
I think you dropped your trailer height to 5'6" to fit through your garage. Without that constraint, would you have gone a little lower / higher now that you've used the trailer a few times? Do you find yourself wishing it was a little taller or maybe you could have dropped it another inch or two?

Rear Stabilizer Jacks???? I learned NOT to attempt loading without trailer being HOOKED UP...all is OK...Hmmmm. But thinking if away, and are UNHOOKED, would be a pain to continually have to HOOK UP to load/unload...where do I find these?

Ian, the rear stabilizer jacks are not hard to find. Can get at Etrailer or go to Camping World on the outer road towards Wentzville. :)

I use two scissor jacks in the back. You do NOT need to have the tow vehicle hooked up. I will typically chock both wheels on both sides, then put the scissor jacks in with the trailer level, and run them up snug. I then run the tongue jack up to tighten it all up. The trailer will not tip up, nor move. I've done this at the track many, many times. I keep the scissor jacks in my trailer, but, they can be permanently attached to the trailer frame, bolted or welded. I have two of these I can bring with me to San Marcos so you can unhook if you want there.

I'm thinking we need to have a trailer class. I know E-trailer offers a lot of videos too, so you may want to watch them.

Yes that would be good...I may go look on etrailer...and see what they have...pick them up Monday....?..? I will let you know....I have JACK STANDS but that is probably not the same as "stabilizers".....

Tim: Bought two tonight / Amazon.....will have guaranteed 3/27 Monday....so this will be good and you can instruct me on correct use...certainly will be better than "hookup - unhook" each time I wish to load the Cobra...oh...my wife just banned me from Amazon.com.....

Hey MIKE...thanks for the info on stabilizers.....all good did it the lazy way...amazon.com / free shipping - guaranteed Monday delivery - $73 for a pair....this trailer "stuff" can certainly nickel/dime ya....I believe I have everything I could possibly need NOW......whew! Also thanks as well KENT but saved me a ride to Viper Trailer.....got a nice pair for about same $$$....

You bet...fun stuff and thankful for the direction of Tim M.....little hands on does wonders.....my latest addition is "stabilizers" scissor type with hand crank...like them and as I understand they go under trailer half way from tire to rear of trailer....can be; bolted on / welded on / or keep them separate and use as needed. I think I will keep them loose and use as needed. As been told objective is to place one either side of trailer and crank them into position ( snug ) then crank up the tongue jack stand to snug ALL and stabilize the trailer. This eliminates being hooked to a vehicle all the time (learned quickly when attempting to load car trailer WILL TILT) not good! So hoping these will solve the trick IF I unhook from my vehicle.... but be able to load/unload the cobra....so anticipating this procedure in San Marcos....I assume there is a "piece of wood" that is placed on top of the scissor jack that will meet the trailer frame rail as it seems pretty "thin" jack to rail only?....this seems it would make it safer?

I have another trick to show you in Texas, involves no hand cranking the scissor jacks :D

Perfect....all eyes and ears....tricks are welcomed....my previous "weather" comment was regarding San Marcos.....looks all sunshine now till Sunday when we head out.... understanding it can change quickly....but NOW looks perfect!

Ian, if you have not already done so, another suggestion is to read up on your Yukon's break controller. Having it set so the trailer breaks evenly with your vehicle will prevent any unpleasantries. Especially if it's raining. :)

Yes Sir: ahead of the curve....all digital settings...."empty" I set at 3.5 / "loaded" is 6.5 - perfect....Barb's Denali has it all and never knew it.... came with the full trailing package...auto leveling, great hook up stance, trailer digital brake controller, trailer mode indicator.
Truly do not even know you are pulling a trailer....of course did the "extended mirrors"....also did a "check" on tight turns etc. to see if there is chance for possible rear damage to car....nope....plenty of clearance, so extended tongue is not needed....very pleased to date with ALL ASPECTS of this trailer.....I look forward to posting my "gas mileage" results.....

Sounds like your set Ian! Will be curious to hear your gas mileage results? My Denali XL got around 7.8 mpg if I wasn't drafting. (traveling around 70-75)
