Storm--Is every one OK?

Some people deal with tragedy by joking about it. They, too, represent the diversity of humanity so admired and exalted by some in the diverse political spectrum in which we now find ourselves living.
I can understand your lack of wisdom in these matters, however. When I was in the Navy back in 1986, our squadron commanding officer quipped - the very day after the space shuttle exploded on takeoff - about how "NASA stood for Need Another Seven Astronauts"!!!
And he also wondered aloud "if Christa McCaulife's eyes were blue, you know, like one blew this way and one blew that way?"
At the time - and in my youth - they were seemingly perverse things to say. But over the years, I see how this Viet Nam hardened Naval Aviator had a tighter bond, a brotherhood of sorts, with those killed in that disaster and that he was just trying to cope with his feelings of loss.
He was smiling in front of his tears.
I would think anyone who joked about the losses in the storm have also dealt with tragedies in their lives and from those experiences, besides just joking about it, have also felt a need to devote a few moments of silent contemplation of sorrow and gratitude. Sorrow for the victims and gratitude that they were spared.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, as am I, but WE ARE IN THE LOUNGE, are we not?

Where the heck else we gonna go to ridicule the embarrassing disaster on Pennsylvania Avenue or Al Gore's moneymaker?
BTW, what war zone were you in that looked like wind damage?

Just for reference, here are some pics I took while in a war zone. Similar but different. After some time in iraq your sense of humor changes a little.
This explosion looked like a small nuke went off. The mushroom cloud was seen 70 miles away by a friend.

About 2 mins after my left foot/toes got smashed at Danny's place under 1 of his lifts & they got the lift off my foot, Danny's buddy Moe (& mine) came over to me while I was withering in excuriating pain, pulled an extra large knife out of his pocket & said "I can fix that." As soon as I stopped laughing about 60 secs later the pain returned. Danny & Moe are as good as they come. Love people like the Naj, Danny & Moe. You're the best Naj.

I could be wrong but if I lived here I would consider this "a war zone" by my comment. Mike, thank you for sharing pics. I appreciate your service and your sacrifices. Please don't not take my comment the wrong way because of that. There is a time and place to joke. A thread specifically requesting if everyone was ok, frankly is not the time or the place.
We as a group have friends that were in the area hit. A couple of our members work in the immediate vacinity of the brunt of the damage. I simply was trying to make the point that if one of our members said their house was wiped out or they were working where and when the tornado passed would we want to look back on the thread as a big joke? There is a time and place for everything a group check is not.
Now back to the regular scheduled program.

Naja, well said, thats how I see thinks as well. Nothing I said, in anyway made fun of, or made a joke of the suffering these people are going through. I have lived through every flood the Mississippi River has had since the mid 50's. In the 93 flood I had over 5' water in my house, a total loss. If sometimes you cant smile in the face of loss, you will break.

Why does someone necessarily have to be right & the other person wrong? Perhaps both views are correct. I agree with you Kid, but laughter is also good medicine. I don't believe anyone who was making jokes within this thread intended to minimize the suffering of those affected by the storms or to disrepect anyone for that matter. It's not worth arguing about to prove or disprove who is "right" or who is "wrong." Peace & Love to all.

Glad everyone here is okay, no war zones, and no more storms.
I'm ok, but my Uncle's house was hit in Arkansas last night. It's a big ranch house on a couple acres, but they didn't have a basement. Fortunately, they do have a storm cellar and were able to make it to there. They weren't injured, but I thought my mother said they lost 3 bedrooms and a tree fell on the house. Doesn't sound good, but they are safe and staying with relatives.

Sorry to hear about your Uncles place Mark but thankfully they are all unharmed. Unlike the storm here the storms in Arkansas took 8 lives. We are guilty of opening the garage door and watching storms come through but not any more. From now on when the sirens sound we are heading for the basement.

I'm one of those guilty guys too Tom. When the "big storm" hit over here about 6-7 yrs ago, Ter went to the basement & I sat at the island in our kitchen eating. I heard & felt a very loud crash & thump. It literally shook our house. I thought that must have been a big oak tree that hit the ground. I looked out the window & one of the neighbors big oak trees was on the ground. Later Jordan went out in the garage & said come here Dad there is water in our garage. I went out in the garage & saw a huge oak tree limb sticking through the roof of our garage ceiling inches above my brand new 250Z. When I went outside I discovered that a huge oak tree had fallen on our garage & had crashed through the roof. I still don't go to the basement.

I was in Bridgeton today. It does look like a bomb went off up there.
I was on the roof of All Star Dodge and their multi-ton AC units were tossed around like dominoes.
