After the first full day, what do those who have been there think of RNG ?

This will be my first year attending, and I am looking forward to Friday and Saturday when I get to go.

I've had a blast. Signed up this morning with Mark for the Test n Tune as well as Friday's RNG Experience. I think I logged about 100 miles today, ON THE TRACK! Paul took some photo's to prove I did this. Everyone is more than willing to answer questions, talk and work on your car. I saw several folks working on someone else's car. This is really much more organized than I expected. The booth looks great, hope to have some photo's of it tomorrow to post. Quite a few manufacturer's there, so if you are looking at different type's of Cobra's to buy, you could see a few here. We are selling soda's and water for $1, 50/50 tickets for a buck, or seven for $5. No photo's sold yet, but Mongoose may change that tomorrow. :D Wish you all could have been there to see my 1:19 track record time - Honest, this is what Tom told me.....

Track time

Tim,
You may have interpreted Tom's numbers incorrectly

I think he said 1:19:00 not 00:01:19

:)

Well, to wrap this up I really enjoyed this week and my first foray in to road 'racing'. I never felt out of my element, nor scared of the track. I did scare myself a time or two in to turn 1, but I came out ok. I will be running the full thing next year, I think I could give a few of the Novice's a run for their money:D Learned alot this week about prep, other manufacturer's cars, and the line around the road course. I learned not to pi$$ off the track manager, right Mark? And I think we learned a thing or to about what we need to focus on next year. Speaking of that, since it is still fresh in our minds, Shouldn't we have a meeting to discuss the results, involvement for next year etc....? BTW, for those of you that weren't there Saturday, and even if you were, I ran an 11.94 1/4 mile @ 119.27! :D :D  I had horrible reaction times and ran 35 psi in my street tires. I really think I left a second out there. Didn't break anything, and didn't wreck unlike a Backdraft car that broke a left axle and hit the wall, ouch! Mark beat me in the GCC grudge match. I messed up and did what Skip told me NOT to do, I dumped the clutch and roasted my tires. Basically did my burnout at the staging lights, duh. That was my worst run at 13.59, but my best reaction time at .440, I know, don't laugh, that is horrible. If you don't know, a good reaction time would be .010, a GREAT reaction time would be .002. Met Greg Costello, mayor of Warrenton, that will be joining our club soon. As I got to the end of my last run, my best run's ticket blew out of the car. So, I ran down Greg, and it just so happened that this was the run I ran against him and he gave me the ticket, cool. I think we will be picking up a few more members from this week, so even if we didn't sell a lot of stuff, we did pick up some more people for our club.

Crap, there's proof that Mark beat me? Lesson learned, don't dump the clutch, you will go no where. See how much tire spin I had? :D Thanks TOM!

No problem Tim, I have a high definition version on my computer if you'd like a copy:D Actually I do have your other runs as well if you'd like me to post one so as to redeem yourself.

No! I say we let him sweat and leave that performance as the only one for awhile:D:D:eek:

Do you any of my other runs too???
Post them all - Tim's and mine if you can.
Thanks
Mark

Alright, the 2nd run against the red Cobra, I was just concentrating on not spinning my wheels, so I really babied it and fell asleep at the light  The last run against the silver Cobra, my lights didn't go down the tree until you saw me leave. He just took off before the tree started and got a red light, don't know what was going on there. :D When I was younger, I didn't think about breaking stuff, wrecking, spinning, etc.... Guess now I think to much when I just need to react. But you did see the Big Block come back and beat the red car, right? :D Thanks so much Tom.

A 1.19 on the road course is pretty darn respectable! We will get you under 1.15 next year, no problem!

Dean, I really don't know what I ran, I think Tom was just trying to make me feel good:D I think Brandon (Carpe Kid) ran a best 1:21. I HOPE to hit 1:25 next year. Can't we do more than one of these a year?! :D

Since you asked......

I have been talking with Brandon about doing more track events next year. I am going to help him get more seat time next year. Anyone can join the "Gateway Cobra Club Racing Team". I usually do 5 or 6 events a year with one being something special at a nice resort for the wife and kids. Something like Mid-Ohio, Road America or Road Atlanta. The Shelby event is in June, the Putnam Park track days are usually April and May and the Porsche and BMW club have events at Gateway twice a year. They are all about like Run and Gun where you are grouped with similar drivers. RnG is the only "race". The rest are just open track days for playing around. How many of you would like to try to do some of these events?

I have to mention that once you hit the track you will be hooked. It took Dean about 3,500 phone calls from me to get me on the track the first time. Now I can't wait for the next event.

I do, however, have a suggestion. IF we name a race team, inside of the Gateway cobra club racing, I suggest 1055 racing. Any ideas why??
