WOW that one got you going Mark. Who is the fairest media to Republicans/Conservatives & which one is the most biased in favor of the democrats/liberals? Don't we always have a form of socialism in our country in modern times with all the "freebie" programs we have regardless of whether a conservative or liberal is our Pres.?
Part #1
Fairest Media? – Neither conservative nor liberal media is fair. Because of market segmentation and advanced demographic targeting now available to news outlets via cable TV and the internet “the media’s” sole interest - again - sole interest is to capture their target audience. In fact, it is because of the segmentation of the market and its various outlets that has made capturing that audience harder than it was just a few years ago.
As an example, this week while the country languishes in economic catastrophe, every single major cable news outlet devoted valuable airtime to the story of Jessica Simpson’s recent weight gain while 100,000 hard working middle-class people lost their jobs this week. Why? – viewership. Did it matter that the big idea in Washington this week was to spend another trillion dollars to buy back bad assets from the nations already bloated banks using our tax dollars and set up a “bad bank” to hold the mortgages for our homes? Did it matter that another big idea was to give the middle class a whopping $500 rebate – but not all at once – they’ll disperse it out 25 dollars at a time? Wow – can’t wait for that. Did it matter that 2 of the President’s cabinet appointees haven’t paid taxes? Did it matter that they decided to appoint a study group and launch a website to determine the hardships of the middle class? Did it matter – yes - those stores got a couple of minutes too, but not nearly the press of Miss Simpson.
But back to the point of “fair media”. It’s a joke. Because of the struggle of their corporate mentality to capture audience share and do the best job for their stockholders (not the public) the modern 4th estate has become nothing more than a dressed-up and polished marketing tool. I could prove it to you 100 different ways – but it’s all marketing. It’s not news. Watch the movie NETWORK (from the 70’s and an academy award winner). Remember - I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE! Everything in that movie has now come to pass and more. Unfortunately, you can’t un-crack this egg. Nowadays, the responsible thing to do re: the news is to disbelieve most of it (and I mean almost all of it) and use your common sense, judgment, and personal responsibility when interpreting “the stories” you hear on and in the media.
Part #2
Haven’t we always had some form of socialism in this country? YES – we are a giving people, and we take pride in our giving nature. The difference today is the payback. The “promise” of America has always been work hard, do good, and the world is your oyster; then give back by being a responsible citizen, raising a good family, etc. But a number of years ago it was decided that certain groups needed help to achieve the “American Dream”. Not all groups – just certain groups. (American Indians kinda got left out on that one – again) Anyway, a good deed to help – yes – but the unintended consequence is that it eliminated the ideas of 1) honest hard work and 2) giving back. With the legs of that stool now gone many people feel it’s OK to deal drugs, have 16 children, or steal from their clients. They’re just trying to get their piece of the pie.
Now – that “helping” mindset has morphed into the idea that we deserve help – and we demand help. And, since government by its very nature “seeks” more power like water seeks its own level - they will with our popular support provide such help.
The result is that we have asked for socialism – and we will get socialism. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and now the squeaky wheels are driving the car.
So, the question is can you un-crack this egg? Nope. Take a look at the mess in Iceland and around the globe as various governments fail or are on the brink of failure. The problem with socialism is that it doesn’t remain socialism. It either degrades into tyranny, or collapses under its own weight. Just ask anyone who ever lived in the USSR. Socialism is the original failed experiment, the real deceiver, two-face by definition.
Therein lays the beauty of the “American Miracle”. Sustain yourself, pursue happiness, live clean and honest, and give government as little power as absolutely necessary. It’s a very delicate balance that we have trampled on and taken for granted – and it will bite us all back.
Next witness!
