RNG Participants

Hey guys, Run & Gun sounds like a blast and I'd like to join you to watch.
Since I'll be taking a day off work to attend, which day(s) are the best? Looks like Thursday would be best, then Friday. Please let me know. Looking forward to it!

Depends on what you like. I believe the autocross is Thursday and the track road course is Friday. Saturdays used to be the drags, but i think that will be the new events this year. You can probably find the schedule of events at the RNG site.

Believe it or not -- and I did not -- I am running short on vacation days this year. I have five scheduled at the end of August to retrieve my daughter from Colorado, and five scheduled in October for a church mission trip.

This affects my ability to participate in both the Supercruise and R&G. I will probably just be going to R&G Thurs and Fri afternoons as one day of vacation.

Several of you heard my story about turn 1 at Gary's tonight, watch this video and you'll see why.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, that's not me! That was a 3 link car :p

Hey, that was an honest mistake. I forgot that I wasn't driving my Cherokee. ;)

I am confident that you will be smarter than me, and not run out of traction, skill, track, & ideas all at the same time. Thankfully, I had a LOT of luck on that one.

But do be careful on Turn 1. You are carrying a LOT of speed down the straight.

Someone clipped the inside wall that I just missed earlier, and someone else really found the outside wall hard earlier that day. Make sure your tires are warmed up really well, take it easy the first few times building up your speed through there, and learn from our errors.

See you there!

Yep - that Turn #1 caught me by surprise a couple of times last year. I think what I figured out was to get off the gas just after the start/finish line, and then stay wide in - until you can't stay wide, and be ready on the brake. We'll see how it goes this year.

Me, I'll be learning from the side line. I'm not going to chance the new motor this soon. I still have an occasional misfire on the passenger side to iron out.

Well PV is on jack stands. I've inspected the rear of the car and up to the tranny. Nothing found so far other than oil which is coming from the passenger side valve cover. That problem is caused by my plug wire separators. They are really nice looking nylon blocks, but I can't get the proper torque on the vc bolts through them. Sooo, off to Ace hardware today to by some hardware and supplies to make that better. Then to Harbor Freight to by that $60 racing jack :D

Tom (or anyone else) - I'm bringing tools and some other stuff with me to the track. Any suggestions on must haves at the track in case of a malfunction? :)

Just remember this lesson.....

1-Go straight very fast:D
2-If something gets in your way....turn.

That is all. :p

Make sure all of your safety stuff is in order. Double carb return springs, battery cables covered and taped etc.. Don't forget your headlight tape and blue painters tape if you want to do the front end & fenders for rock protection. Clean everything out of the car and the trunk. Extra cap & rotor, plugs, a good tire gauge, lug nut wrench, #1157 bulbs or whatever you are using for brake bulbs. Can't think of much beyond these basics.

Reminder

Go wide into turn one, move to the apex and drift out on exit. This infamous picture has been used in FFR video's and various other media to show what the car that won King of the Hill for the event was doing the day before. I took it in 1999 after Dave Smith went in too hot and traction rolled when he slid wide and the right side tires got into the hard dirt. Dave's comment to me when I told him that he should get checked out was "Tom, I'm too pissed off to be hurt" :D
