Putnam - September 17 - 19

Just got off the phone with Dan, lots more besides the ball joint going on....Apparently, a J O B is going to ruin a fun time  :D We understand Dan, and won't blame it on the small block this time :D

Blastoff for Putnam is in an hour. After picking up my car and trailer at Winners Circle I'll hook up with Tim and Jim somewhere on I-70.

The weather is looking perfect. Hopefully I haven't jinxed us by saying so.

Don't forget - Putnam is only 4 hours away, so jump in the Cobra tomorrow, head on over and cheer Tim and me on as we battle a slew of Porsches.

Steve

Passed Tech, slicks on, numbers on (they are adhesive type ) and tape on the headlights. I'm ready to get on the track! :D Bonus - checked in to our hotel and it's full of a girls college volleyball team :D  Pics tomorrow, forgot my cable, so I can't upload video :(

Exciting weekend and a great time. Ended up off track once yesterday and twice today  I have video of today's off track adventures, still going through video and pics, will post some up soon. I have to order new brake pads and get them on before Saturday, or I may stick the ceramic pads I have on the front. Stay tuned, tired tonight.

Here's a few teaser pics from the cd I bought. Jim took a few pics, and will need to get those from him though. Still working on video, some are on my laptop of which I left the AC adapter at the hotel :( Still working on them, you know, editing out spins and such :D

..I left the AC adapter at the hotel

Well that sucks.

It was a great time this weekend. Fun running with Tim and having Jim along for Tim to pick on. If I can figure out how, I'll post a few pictures too.

I think a true track car (Lotus Exige??) is in my future.

Steve
PS: Tim - Don't forget you have my USB cable.

Here's a video, not sure why youtube narrowed it, but it did. Anyway, you'll get the idea :D

Outstanding!
I watched all of your turn #1 entrances and there's really not that much difference to the one at 4:45. It's surprising how easily she went around. What was the difference for you?

Here's how to take turn 1:
- Brake hard from 200' - 100'
- Steer to the apex by looking at farmhouse in the distance
- Ease off brake, gently squeeze throttle to shift the weight back to the rear wheels
- Carry speed to turn 2

In this turn, I:
- Correctly used the brakes going in
- I turned about a car length too early in to the turn
- I had carried much more speed in to one than before as I got a decent run out of 10
- As I go through the turn, two things happened - 1) I let off the gas as I felt it slip (bad idea, they told me to accelerate when that happened) and then got back on it too hard causing it to go around 2) I kept it pinched down on the 'candy' too long. I was supposed to begin my turnout about 12' back.

I didn't see or hear all of this at the time, but now I do. I could have made that turn and the lap my fastest of the day as there was no one in front of me at that point and I was going for it. I still haven't disected all of the video yet to see if I ran faster, I'm sure I did, just don't know by how much

Yes, there was a copper 'vette there that was running 1:20 laps. As for the difference, the classroom time, the track walk and having a one on one instructor go through the turns with me coaching me made a big difference. I don't know if it will show in time, but it is a much better/relaxed way around the track when you hit the right lines. Notice my turn 7 entry/exits compared to the video I posted before for instance.

Dave - There was an instructor in the VW and she could just drive better than me. That and by the time I got around the slower cars, she was gone :o

SHE!!??!!

looks very cool Tim! I am ubber disappointed I couldn't join you guys, but it was good seeing my son this weekend and getting him settled in his new apartment in Nashville.

I'm definately planning on joining you guys for the next track day.

More PICS, More VIDEO! :D

Steve, did you run there before? How did you like it?

There were a few she's that were faster than me. Especially the Green Lotus in the pictures below. I didn't get many shots with my camera as the battery died. Will have to catch up with Jim to get his pics and maybe Steve can figure it out too.

Mark:

That was my 5th time at Putnam (you couldn't tell based on how shi**y I ran). I really enjoy the track. Challenging but not dangerous and only 4 hours away.

Swapped my brake pads out tonight. I am so glad I decided to park the car when I did. I was down to metal on the pads. Luckily, I only scored my rotors, didn't trash them. This helps explain where some of my pedal went going in to turn 1 on my spin. Only thing I've found so far is a lot of balled up rubber from my slicks, a missing header bolt, and some blow by oil in the engine compartment. Otherwise, nothing major that I can see or find. Checking torque on all my bolts tomorrow, and bolting the street tires back on.

Watched some more of my video today and found something pretty interesting. I'll show you instead of telling you, have to edit them down.
