I really want to know, how many like discussing politics on a car forum? I'm thinking that if the vote count is low, then it be discontinued all together, Paddock or not.

Had to vote no on this one.
A) It seems like the conversation starts and ends with hate. Political discussions in all corners of society have taken a vile tone in the last 8 or 9 years and it's not helpful or educational.
B) I don't like to see my friends fight over anything.
C) Nothing we say here has any impact on the political climate anywhere - it's just hot air no matter what side you find yourself on - and in the end the only results are the hurt feelings of people we consider friends.

If it means we have fewer web visitors - oh well. I personally get plenty of political information from TV, etc - and IMHO it's getting boring.

I agree in general with Mark's comments. It is more important that we all remain friends because of love of cars, fun & most importantly camaraderie. We should not let our political opinions define the basis of our friendships. Mark & I have engaged in a give & take of our opinions on occassion & when we have done so it has been very courteous & respectful and as a consequence thereof very enjoyable. However, as a general rule most of the time it leads to hurt feelings & damaged relationships. That is not good or healthy for us or our club. I like Karl. He is a great guy. He is an ASSET to our club. His political opinions are different than the majority of our club members evidently. He has courageously stepped forward & declared on which side of the fence he falls for the most part, contrary to the majority preference. He has my respect for that. It would be nice if we could continue to allow political opinions/discussions on our forum, BUT if it is in the long run detrimental to the best interests of our club then I say we must act to protect the best interests of our club. BTW Are political talk shows ala Keith Oberman or Rush Limbaugh constructive & good for our country or do they merely drive a further wedge between our parties & have they been a contributing factor in the general decline in relations between the parties? Are they devisive & derisive or are they constructive & serve a meaningful purpose? Oh uh. I just entered into a political debate. :D

It's not a debate if no one participates :D

My thoughts exactly Mark. I just feel it doesn't serve the purposes of this club.

Need another option

I am looking for the fourth option:

No, I don't read it anyway

Paul

I can do without it, but as responsible adults we need to keep our ears open and try to find facts about our goverment. I agree that the car club might not be the best venue though.

You are right Bull. As responsible adults it is our civic duty to be informed for the sake of making hopefully good choices in respect to who we vote for & how we communicate with our elected officials. HOWEVER, what we receive/ingest as alleged/supposed "facts" is biased. It is slanted and spun by the disseminator thereof whether we are talking about the media, talk show hosts or politicians themselves. Therefore, we must be as vigilant & discriminatory as possible to attempt to filter out as much bias as possible and attempt to determine wherein lies the truth or something reasonably approximating the truth.

If I read that legal disclaimer right, I agree, good point David and Dan. So, the leading vote is No, but if I knew all discussions could be carried on like this one, I wouldn't mind it so much. I don't like the walking the line near po'd posts. If there is one thing I know, this president will be there until 2012 period. Doesn't mean we have to like it, but it does no community, city, state or country any good continuing to pound the ground with "this guy is useless" comments. His performance will show what kind of president he is. And THAT is what I will use to make my decision on who I vote for next time. Sorry, got that out, back to the poll.

I thought about this poll all night...my synopsis:
I have not read anything in the Paddock forum that has upset me. I find it interesting to see other peoples views.
The issue as I see it is : if you don't agree with a position you don't want to hear the opposite of the issue.
The previous admin caught thier fair share of flack(and still do).

I thought the Paddock was a members only site.
I have really enjoyed this site and the members I have been able to meet in person(I just live too far away from the Gateway).
I feel that the issues presented on here are a way to help me decide my positions so I can select the proper representive to vote for.

Some one in this thread made mention that we can't really affect what is going on anyway; THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH AMERICA...APATHY.. what we need is more banter so we can all make a difference.
We have become complacent.

Other Side of the Fence

I understand Congress has begun discussing some major subjects

1) is an original body shape more desirable than a Factory Five?

2) when you refer to a big block, is it a "FE" or a "MEL"

3) is a square frame or round tube frame better?

That will teach us to meddle in their sandbox, now they're playing in ours

i agree snake and we all have our own mind and can sift through some of the bull. i put some of this on here to maybe open some eyes to what is happening. i know my storey about ted kennedy upset some sorry for that but fact is fact i wish i could find my term paper from my last year in school on the kennedy family. receive a 98 out of 100 on it but they held up grade till i showed all sources ( no computor back then ) ha ha lost 2 points for spelling imagine that. i wish i could show you all the amount of $ i have lost just since he took office but i can give to a idea it would cover the cost of a new cobra and a nice inclosed trailer. and i sit here and see them keep spending and deflating the dollar so what we will have left is worth $$$

I see the Paddock as an opportunity to inform friends of information they might not be aware of from the highly censored national news media. The information is not posted to inflame. It's posted to inform and hopefully get others to apply critical thinking... and if they disagree... to become more active in making necessary changes. It is also posted to motivate since too many of us remain far too apathetic to our countries problems.

I totally disagree that these are issues over which we have no control That is an attitude of defeatism. If I am going to lose to an oppressive government...it's going to be going kicking and screaming in opposition.

I think sometimes we lose sight of our responsibilities as citizens. We are not here to be governed. We are members of a self governing country of representative government where WE are charged with electing...or getting rid of those... who we send to DC to represent our wishes. And if or when our government exceeds it authority...granted by each of US...then it becomes OUR responsibility to correct or remove those legislators.

For those of you who spent time in the military...each of us swore an oath to protect this country against all enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC... There was no time limit placed on that oath . There were no exceptions innumerated...such as "except rogue politicians, senators, representatives... or presidents". Are you saying now that you really didn't intent to uphold that oath? Are you saying you can selectively pick and choose those who pose a threat to this country?

Sometimes we fail to perform due diligence in filling our responsibilities and part of that responsibility is informing others when threats to our representative government surface.

Or...we can stick our heads in the sand, pretend we aren't losing our country and remain silent.

Your choice....

"Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valient never taste of death but once."

Kerry pretty well summed it up....I am not a wordsmith....thanks Kerry.
You are right about the oath...it goes to the grave with you.

I like what Tim said: "His performance will show what kind of Pres. he is." & I like what Snake said: "I have not read anything in the Paddock forum that has upset me." I also like what Kerry said in his 3rd para.

The Paddock serves a useful purpose. It is a great opportunity for us to express & exchange our opinions & beliefs. This country was founded on certain inalienable rights, principles & privileges. It is fundamental that we are guaranteed/granted freedom of speech, expression & opinion. However, that does not mean we can say anything we want anytime we want without 1st considering the consequences & hurt feelings of others before doing so. I have only been hurt once by what one of our members said in the paddock & the response of another member that followed as well. Perhaps I have been guilty of wrongdoing as well in the past by my actions or words and therefore perhaps I have been forgiven by those that I have wronged as I have forgiven those who arguably wronged me. If we abuse the privileges the paddock affords us the opportunity to avail ourselves of, then we risk losing those very privileges we should so dearly respect & honor by being respectful, courteous & loving to one another.

Do unto others as you wish done to you.
Life is short...enjoy it..we are all just a blip on the radar screen.
Eat dessert first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Do unto....." Gee who said that? ;)

Here today, gone tomorrow. Life is but a whisper.

Yummie! My mommy would never let me do that. :p

Love THE Snake. :D

Question and give a honest answer

Do any of you beleive if it had been kansas city or rio mr obama would have tried half as hard to get the olympics here. Or any other town in the other states. i don't think so myself. And with the problems we have in this country why is he in rio show boating and how much did this escapade cost all of us. this reinforces we have a president with little experience or know how. think of what the rest of our country is thinking trying to get the olympics in a town full of crime and corruption. i bet other countries are laughing at us on how foolish we must be.

I think many have brought up some good points. I've been thinking about this and I finally actually cast my vote. for keeping it. I do enjoy finding out facts and I'm a big boy and can weed out the BS. My one concern is losing some good people from the forum from hurt feelings. There was no end to the Bush bashing when he was in office and it always seemed to be OK, but the current administration doesn't like the microscope turned on them. That's part of the job. Do I agree with everything Bush diD? NO, but I also don't think he was near as bad for us as Obama will end up being to our economy nor of how other countries see our country. I think they would love for us to seem weaker so that they can move the world to their aims. I am an "America First" kind of guy and I'm non-apologetic about it. The other countries don't give a crap about us except to see how much they can get out of us. They've proven it time and again. Do we have a moral directive to help others since we are so big. Yes, but we haveto take care of our own first and then others. Heck, we're getting more of our own all the time which costs more. I'll stop ranting now.
