Congratulations on the offer Scott! Now you are in the unenviable position of having to decide what to do. Best of luck with your decision, I know you have your family's best interest and future in mind and speaking for everyone here I'm sure, we would hate to see you go but certainly understand if that's what you decide to do.

Good Luck!
Tom

Man I just got home and found this. I was just on the phone with you! Oh well I understand. You know how I feel and we'll support you in your decision whichever way you go. Good luck.

Congrats on the offer Scott! You have to do what is best for your family.

Let's see, small company struggling for work, but really enjoy the small company and the work I have OR Big company with security and a lot of work with mucho benefits but, a lot of corporate rules that will hinder my growth within the company. One is iffy and not reliable to take care of my family, one is secure and will not need to worry about my family. That's what I think I know. :)

Congrats, Having made a couple of moves I can tell you... Friends are friends regardless of location, but family always comes first. Good luck and best wishes with your decision!

Scott,

In my own career I agonized over the same decision every time I received a new job opportunity. Several major promotions I turned down because they simply did not "feel right"... Try not to over analyze...it will only confuse your decision.

Talk with all members of your family as to how they feel about the change. Then listen to your inner voice and follow what feels right to you. It's not always about money but if your decision allows you to sleep well at night believing you have done what is best for your family...you will have made the right choice.

Good luck in whatever you elect to do. You are a smart, conscious and honorable person. You will always be successful.

Thanks for all of the thoughts and well wishes.

The first thing I told them when they offered the position was thank you very much, I need a few days to discuss with my family and I will let you know by Monday. They were understanding.

It has taken them 3 months from when I applied until today, so I know this position has been open for a while.

I am a car nut, it's in my blood, what can I do? Of all the makes out there, I would say Honda ranks up there at the top for my likes, etc. I've owned 3 of their automobiles, 2 motorcycles, and my father also owned 3 of their autos in the past, one of which they sold to me!

I've been looking to get out of the "traditional practice" of architecture for some time...and this is a owner's rep/facility manager position...so there you go.

Moving sucks, everyone in my family agrees on that. I don't know much about central Ohio, but it didn't seem much different that western Illinois (the areas over the river from St. Louis) when I was there. Columbus is the capital...and London is very close.

With the internet I have made more friends in this club and on the factory five forum that it's very easy to reach out and stay in touch.

Tough decisions. They made it easier by offering me about 15% more than I make today, and paying for all moving expenses, closing costs, rent for 6 months, etc...I could go on but you get the point.

I hope nobody thinks we are possibly leaving to take the easy way out of this economic mess. My wife has been without job since August and it is not easy sitting around wondering if you are next.

Sorry Dan, didn't mean to blind side you, I was at my desk when you called and it was not something to talk about while at work.

Scott, Don't give it a second thought. That's exactly where I thought you were. Not a problem. I know how things are. Let us know if there is anything we can do.

I spent some time in Columbus and Cincinnatti. Had all my tools stolen in Columbus, some seedy areas much like here. Cincy, ok, typical small big town. Dayton, like it alot.

Congrats Scott on the job offer. During the years I spent a lot of nights in Columbus. The only downside I see is you'll have to become a Buckeye fan. Good luck.

Anyone ever notice how much a buckeye looks like a pot leaf?:p Oh wait....did I say that out loud?:p:p

Best of luck Scott with whatever you choose, and no taking a 15% is not taking the easy way out after all you have dicussed with us.

63 days and counting...

Yes, the decision was made tonight. We will miss you guys, but I will see some of you again in late June...something I heard about a gathering called LCS?

So...I get to keep my roadster. I also need to help get the house ready to sell...time will be limited but at least we are not in a hurry to sell. We have a grand total of 10 months before we must have our current house sold. Point being I need to get this thing (the car) running, go-carting and the body on before we leave so it can be transported to wherever it is we end up. In a perfect world, I would leave the body with Murrill, and go-cart at my dad's (he has a spare garage space) and come get the whole thing when it's done...but that damn reality (money) keeps hitting me in the head.

Thanks so much for all of the encouraging thoughts, prayers, tips, and help with looking for new opportunities.

I'm addicted to this forum, so I doubt you will be done with me for a while. And if I send Mark my '09 dues...I will still get to post on the progress of my car! :o

Congrats Scott. Will miss you and your updates, but please consider yourself welcome here anytime, hey, maybe once you become a member of the OCC we can have some "privileges" when we come over for LCS. :D Soooo, 63 days until you're out of St. Louis? If you need help getting your car started, let me know, I can help some.

Thanks Tim. Yes, I will need some help in a few weeks. Want to still have you all over for a "body on" build party...

I'm boiling my heater hose as I write so it will be a little more pliable to install on the engine (it's smaller than the heater bypass outlets on the engine).

Congrats - but it's a sad day. You've been here since day 1. We've all been pulling for you to get that car on the road and join us on the cruises. They're so much fun. That one day at David's house when we all went for our cruise, and left you in the Camry - I really felt sad. I hope you can get 'er done this season and have some fun with us (or OCC). I'm sure you made the right decision, but you'll be missed for sure.

Congrats Scott. Like everyone here, I'll miss you and your practical advice. I know you're doing what is best for you and your family. Let me know if you need any help. I'll be there. Hope to see you this year maybe at the LCS. May have to bring my co-pilot though. See you soon.

Hey Scotty Congratulations. It's a sad day for us & a great day for you & your family. I in particular will miss you. I feel like we've grown really close. You have a wonderful family who loves you dearly. This is an exciting time in your life. Go get em big guy. :)

Congrats Scott. Hey I know a very good St. Louis based Architect if you ever send a project out of house!!!! I'm never one to miss a plug!!

Again congrats, let us all know when you need help. I really want to cruise mine over to your place before you leave!
