Well guys, this is it. I hardly slept last night and was up at 4 AM. I'm off to Arizona to look over the cobra and finalize the deal. Man I hope there are no surprises. I'll be off the net until Sunday, but I'll take plenty of new pictures and I'll post an after trip report along with the final decision. Wish me luck. L8r. :D

And the vote is in...

The votes have been tallied and it's official. I'm a cobra owner! The current owner Chris met me at the airport and after breakfast we went to look at the car. Chris is a great guy and he has a fabulous product coming out in a couple of weeks with the new ISIS system. I get one of the new systems with the car. Chris is 6'3" and he put a lot of thought into the vehicle. It's a non-donor build and all the dash modifications were done to make it easier for him in the car. I get to reap the rewards of that almost immediately. The car has a couple of chips, but hey it's beautiful and a driver. He's giving me the original paint can for any touch up in the future. I like the dash layout and with the advanced electronics, it positions some of the other items well. I've checked with Stewart Transport and their truck is booked through the 22nd of September, so I'll be looking for another carrier. The car can be picked up anytime after Wednesday noon. more than likely it will be Thursday or Friday. If anyone knows a good company with enclosed trailers, let me know and I'll call them for a quote. I'll plan a party sometime around the arrival. I didn't take a lot of pictures because we were talking so much about the car and driving it. Man what a F@#!ing blast. Now i'm either doing this :D or looking like this:cool:

The leather in the car is nice and best of all I fit. It has a diagonal bar on the outer wall of the driver foot box that I want to move this winter. I may need a little guidance on best practices to do this on an MKII, but I know you guys. :) My feet are wider than Chris' and I know both he and some of you have told me about driving shoes. I'm going shopping when I get home. Does anyone know if Missouri requires windshield wipers and front License plates for these cars? I've heard conflicting things. Hope to see you at the party next weekend.

Too  I am so glad it worked out for you. I can't imagine what the feeling must have been IF it would not have worked out. :( I'm sorry, I think I would have been tempted to drive it home.

Front plates - yes, it is required, HOWEVER, I've never been stopped for that. In fact, I have been stopped for speeding, but the officer didn't say a word about a front plate. I have mine in my car, and IF one ever says anything about it, I hope to talk my way out of it by putting it on. Just takes away from the look of the car.

Wipers - I understand it to be yes, HOWEVER, I know people that do not have them, and again, I would be willing to take the chance ONCE inspection is done.

Way to go Dan, and welcome to the Cobra OWNER'S club! :D

I do..........

the same thing H/W does. I keep my front plate in the trunk & I figure I'll use the "gotta get it to the body shop" excuse & if that doesn't work I figure I'll just tell em that H/W gets away w/it why not me? :D:eek::D:eek:

Congrats Big Guy! If you ever need help modifying that footbox, I know someone in the area who has already done this on one

Wipers are required...but many have them that don't work. No fault of the owner...it's just these fineky old units give out over time. See if Fast Lane can do your inspection for you and get around that requirement!

BTW - When I moved to STL from Denver in 2005, I used the services of a car transport company to pre-ship one of our rides here. We self-moved, and there was too much to take in one trip. I think if you go online, and do a google search, you will find many options. I went with a open carrier, and it cost me something like $500 in 2005 for the trip (850 miles door to door). But you can specify a closed carrier transport (about doubles or triples the cost).

The other option...is to drive down there with your Chebby truck, and rent a U-Haul auto transport trailer (1-way), and drive it back yourself on the trailer. Just don't cover it up with anything when you trailer, i.e. tarp, cover, etc. (ask me how I know). That's how I got my first kit car from San Diego to Denver. It was to say the least, and very interesting 3 days...but I made it back in one piece!

I look forward to seeing this beauty in person. Wouldn't mind looking at some of the dash mods to inspire my build (although I think I just about fit in my ride now)...

Thanks for the support..

Guys, thanks for all the support. Man, I'm still doing this. :D I can't wait to start driving it. What a blast. What surprised me the most wasn't the brutal acceleration. Hate to say it, but I've been in a couple of these and other high performance car and I guess I knew what to expect. What surprised me was one of the roads we were on had a series of dips. We were flying and the car didn't bottom out like some of the other cars I've been in. The car just stuck to the road and because of the harness, it just sucked you right down with it. I mean I thought we should be air born, but nothing but an assault on your senses and the feeling like your on the steel rollercoaster. Way cool. I know Chris has been driving it awhile and he knows how to get the most out of the launch. We were talking about programming and he said at night when he's stress he just goes for an hour out in the car and feels better. I told him that it was exactly what I was looking for.

As for the mods, I know a place where the beer is cold and the help plentiful. I just have to get back there. I think I'm going to go ahead and order a couple of items when I get back and replace the windshield over the winter. I'll order a front plate hanger, but keep it in the trunk as suggested. The area where I live, the local police are known for being sticklers about things that can make them money. (I mean enforce the letter of the law:rolleyes:)
Look forward to seeing everyone. Once I have an arrival date I'll let everyone know. I can finally start filling in my information at the bottom of my posts!

Rich's Transport

Dan,
This is the company that Hurricane uses to deliver their cars. Nothing but praise for the guy.

Also, good news on the big grin/smile on your face. It doesn't go away as long as you own the car.

Just to give you....................

some perspective. I have owned a 57 Chevy Nomad, 38 Chevy Coupe, 57 Chevy Vette & my Cobra in that order & guess which one has been the most fun to drive & gets the most looks! :D You guessed it. :D The 57 Vette is a close second tho. Your gonna love it. Glad your happy.

Dan

I knew it was going to go well for you, Congratulations!!! Can't wait to see it. Send 2 Southwest Airlines tickets and a few bucks for gas and Linda & I will drive it "gently" home for you so you don't have to wait so long :D.

Offer?

Dan,
Don't know if Tom is serious on his offer or not - IT'S NOT A BAD DEAL. I bet it would be cheaper and quicker than a transport.

Paul

Offer on Transport..

Tom, I appreciate the offer. I considered twice while I was out there of just taking off and driving home. Shelley would have killed me though if i didn't do it myself before I got home. I have a carrier set up to deliver it now. I had a lot of people offer up suggestions and I appreciate everyone enthusiasm. In the end with it being open top with no wipers, I just bit the bullet and set up the delivery with an enclosed trailer. It should be here in a couple of weeks. I know it's going to seem like forever, but that will give me a little time to get some other things done around the house. I think I better hit the home improvement list pretty hard for the next two weeks. After that I don't know If I'll be able to concentrate on anything. :D

If everything went perfect, it would be here Saturday night, but I'm preparing myself for the full two weeks. I may have to take a day off once it arrives, just to break it into the new area.

Dan,

A wise decision for sure. No (well, very little) chance of damage along the way and it should arrive clean too. I would go ahead and get that break in day on the calender now so nobody is expecting you at work unless you choose to stop by and show it off a little. You should be able to get alot done while you are losing sleep waiting for delivery.
