Steve, somehow, I think we agree, more than less. :D

Tim:

If 1//2 cent tax save hundreds of jobs, then let's make it a $1,000 tax and put all of the unemployed back to work. It just doesn't work that way in case you haven't noticed the hundreds of billions spent to create or save ZERO jobs.

Here's the deal - Mike wants to open a new plant, but no government entity is willing to subsidize it. Does he not build the plant? Maybe not, but if he doesn't, then building the new plant didn't make any economic sense.

Or, maybe he says, I'm going to open the plant up in China where the labor is cheaper. OK. If our tariffs and import / export policies make that profitable, then he should go for it. BTW - I don't agree with our current policies in this area.

More than likely though he will build it because it is in his own best interests to do so.

Government is a form of bacteria. A little is necessary to survive. Any more than that and you will get sick and even die. America is currently on life support partly from the idea that the government knows which companies deserve "incentives" and which don't.

Government i.e.: politicians are like diapers...usually all wet full of #&*% and need to changed often.
We do need incentives for small business...those proposed by this admin amount to borrowing more money. Isn't that what put us here to start with. Why would I want to borrow 1/4 to 1/2 million(borrow = payback +)to invest in my business that is at best breaking even at this point(last year was a dead loser). The economy has not turned around. We are at 50% gross of last year with our long time accounts. Any growth is from new accounts(which amounts to stealing them from someone else), so that means someone else is losing business....a visious circle.
Small business is poised to lose whatever tax breaks we have been told we have. Cap gains tax going up, depreciation going down. No real good reason to invest more in any in company at this time. It would take a wind fall of new business to make me think about hiring and expanding.
