Muncie Drag Strip Event

Just received this response from Randall:

"Ok, I got it. Thanks Kerry! no problem. I just get so much virus mail
and we usually only accept text.txt attachments only. I just wanted to
be sure since normally we don't do this type registering but we are
more than happy to do it for you guys in the show me state. I think
Steve turned my original .txt. mail into a word.doc and pretty much this
is his fault. In fact, everything is usually Steve's fault somewhere or
another. heheh.

I Got you covered Kerry, and it's all taken care of. If you need
anything at all let me know, and I'll be sure to let you know about the
Saturday evening activities... once we figure out what they are ourselves.

Randall"

Well I just recieve a small change to my Muncie plans. It appears I'll be carrying a little more weight with me to Muncie. Ashley has successfully lobbied to come with me since we're coming back on Sunday and Madison can have someone to talk to. Looks like I'll have to book my own room after all.

After last night's meeting I think we've convinced Jim Dooley to join us and participate in the drag racing events. Now we need to work on Gary Owens.

C'mon Gary. The chance to have a drag strip practically to yourself is rare. What better environment to acquaint yourself with handling your car under hard acceleration? No police, no stoplights, no intersections, only one other car next to you. Give it a whirl, you won't be disappointed.

Steve

I went back to the e-mail that I received from SCOF and found the link for reservations, but it links to several hotels. Soooo, which one are you staying at? There are four in the poll that are participating, not counting Jim. Sooo, Mike, you still going?

Tim, I won't make it. I'm in Kansas at the KU graduation for one of my daughters. When I initially signed up for the drag race, I didn't realize the weekend was spoken for already. Nuts. The good news is there will now be more money.:D

Current forecast has rain Friday 5/21 through Monday 5/24 in Muncie and here Friday through Sunday. I'll have to make the call Friday morning as to whether I make the trip in an open top car. :( I hope it clears up, but the pattern we're in doesn't give a lot of hope. I really wanted to go to this one.

So Steve, what's the rain out policy on this event?

Tim:

The original plan was that there would be an alternate date selected. At this point one hasn't been chosen. I suspect that's because we'll want to choose a date that most people can attend.

Right now Sunday is looking good. I know that doesn't help Dan or anyone else driving over without a top.

Dan - Mark might be able to arrange for Pat from MasterTech to loan you his trailer for a couple of days.

Steve

Well my truck is in the shop starting Monday. I was hit last week by a 15 1/2 yr old in a parking lot. I should get the truck back by Friday, but I won't have a hitch for a trailer that I'd trust my car and someone elses trailer. If the weather looks bad, I just can't chance it. Discretion being the better part of Valor. If this doesn't pan out, I may shoot for Putnam un June. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm supposed to get my new rear tires on sometime this week if it dries out.

Dan:

The weather forecast seems to be improving slightly. Think positively. Worst case is you spent a little time under a bridge waiting for the rain to stop. :)

This is a serious suggestion - you should drill a hole in the bottom of each foot-well so water can drain out when you do get rained on.

Steve

Foot box holes are a good idea, I drilled mine after having over 2" of water sloshing around on our first Ohio trip. Stopping under a bridge is not a good idea. Mike D and I parked under a bridge in Indianapolis for about 45 minutes during a real downpour and the crap that the passing trucks washed in was an awful mess to clean up. If you have to pull over get off the highway at the first exit you come to and throw a cover over the cockpit or raise a couple of umbrella's. You can't do a cover or umbrella's under a bridge because the wind from trucks will pull them right out of your hands, been there. If you are lucky, your exit will have a gas station with covered pumps where you can gas up while you wait and once you buy gas they don't care if you sit for a while.

I'm going to wait until Friday morning to make the call. That way the weather forecasters will be as close as possible to being right. I have to give the hotel a 24 hr notice. If it looks like we can make it and back and actually have the event, I'm in, but $50 isn't worth 12 hours on the road to get rained on and not do the even either. I fnally got it running right, I'm in no hurry to screw anything up right now. There will be other events I'm sure. I will look at the drain holes in the floor boards though. Either way that sunds like a good idea. Thanks!

I've not made hotel reservations as of yet. Saturday/Sunday look good here, but they can't even get tomorrow right much less 6 days from now. So, I will make my reservations Friday or Saturday on the way there I guess. I really hate this time of year and am really doubting I will even go. Not real pumped about it anyway. This has nothing to do with nothing other than the weather and my finances may I add. I know going in to this weekend that if I stay home, I save myself $300 with fuel there and back, fuel on the track, hotel and eats. I only lose my $50 registration. Right now, just really don't have it, and thought I would at time of registration.

Weather forecast is looking favorable. Will check tomorrow....I feel like Bret Favre  :)

Saturday
Partly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of thunderstorms until midday. Highs in the upper 70s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
Saturday Night and Sunday
Partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 50s. Highs in the mid 80s.

I'm out. With the way the weather has been and the cycles we've seen, I'm not going to chance it. Better to lose the $50. Good luck to all that go. Wish I could be there. Now I know why you guys have trailers. :D
