Pictures from this mornings run. Rain came in about 11:30 am and looks like it will continue thru 3PM

Lots of serious bench racing going on.

The upgrades were better than I expected. I beat Tim's best time by a second, but I suspect he'll be getting that back tomorrow. I was able to stay in front of the Lotus most of both days, but to be fair it was Steve's first time at this track. Everybody was running great laps. Tomorrow will be very challenging as they will run the track in opposite direction, so you have to learn it all over again. Don't tell anyone, but thats my favorite direction.

The car handles and brakes great now. Very pleased. Tim and I had several great sessions where we played follow the leader at 100 mph and then passed each other and started again. Kinda of a game of tag. That was my goal.

My only problem with the upgrades is that I smoke the rear wheels coming out of most corners. Nothing I can do about that. I have to either take the corner faster, or feather the throttle out. I'm aiming for taking the corner faster. These new slicks are not going to last very long.

Tim's fuel pump quit today, so he missed a couple of sessions getting it changed out. I expect he be back with a vengeance on Sunday. Me and Steve had a near miss today when a guy in an unfinished Cobra blew an oil line on the back straight. I drove through a cloud of smoke and Steve drove through the oil a spun into the grass. All is fine. Earlier I got a bit to assertive exiting a turn and spun in front of Steve. Thank god the brakes on the Lotus are so good.

There's a lot of very exotic cars here this weekend. Guess what. They all broke. Most notably was Dean Lampe who broke a half shaft. Very sad for that. Dean really deserves a complete weekend. One of the organizers brought out a IMSA car that just could not make power and spent 3 days in the pits. Tomorrow he hopes to run his Indy car. There are some very fast GT500s and Corvettes. Tomorrow I hope to keep up with a 79 Camaro TramsAM car.

Another thing Tim and I learned is some secret information for carbarators when road racing. A minor upgrade that should improve both of our times dramatically. Soon, we will be gunning for Davis Williams times.

Jim Dooley is here and his webers are running pretty good. Paul is here, and I hope to have him ride along tomorrow with either Tim or myself.

Bottom line...learned a lot. Any of you would have had a great time. Hope you can make it to the next one. Tomorrow is the last day. I better get some sleep. Tim will be gunning for me.:D

As predicted...Purple Venom came back with a vengeance. We battled to a virtual tie on Sunday. He got his second back, and I lost mine. He bested me on Sunday by .07 seconds. I couldn't catch him no matter how hard I tried. Pictures to come.

Now on to technical discussions as to why I was unable to make the same power on Sunday. But, without a doubt, Tim was, and remains the better driver.

What a great weekend. Thanks to Tim, Paul, Steve, Jim Dooley, Chuck, Davis Williams, Dean, Clois, and the easy going folks at Hallett.

Sounds like a great time Mark. Glad you like your upgrades and everything worked out for you. Keeping up with other people on the track I'm sure makes it alot more fun. Hopefully I can find the time to make one of the track days this year if not there's next year.

Rick:)

Mark I think some of it is Tim has a lot more experience running the purple crack than you. It will take time. There also is always going to be a difference in skill levels. Someone will always be better than you unless your last name is Schumacher. I recently jumped into a strange car and beat the owner of the car by .5 seconds. Last fall I had a co-driver that beat me by 4 seconds in my own car.

I would guess with a little more time with the changes you made will result in some good competition. I hope to join you someday at an event to see how I stack up.

Way too much credit Mark. The pictures below reflect how I ran this weekend. Not good. Mark, however, ran great and that car is going to get faster as he get's more seat time. I had a great pit crew thanks to Stinky and Poo Poo. Mark, who's Davis Williams? :p

I had a great time at Hallett (even though I did bug out first thing Sunday). It's always fun hanging out with the guys.

Mark did a great job driving. I'm going to need some more ponies under the hood in order to catch back up on those straights.

As an FYI to those of you that are afraid to get you cars out on the track ------- there were girls out on the track in their cars. :D

Steve

was that Dave W car that was smoking so bad in the videos.
Looked like great time. Are they still looking at a track day later in the year at hallet?

Nope, that was Sam Watson from Texas. He ended up throwing a rod in the oil pan. One of 2 engine failures. David drove Mike B's Indy car and actually ran a better time than Mike without the ability to shift (he couldn't reach the pedals). And yes, 10/19 - 10/21 - Run N Gun.

Well it sounded like you kept the motor running. Looked pretty good right up to the point it got away.

Rick

I forgot how much elevation change there was there, brings back some memories (not all good). Not a bad idea to pull it off the track and regroup,I imagine the heart rate was up just a wee bit after that! I can't wait to get out there.

And here's my fastest lap Sunday, my last one of 1:33.????. Mark and I both ran a 1:32 on Friday, but never could repeat it.
