Just for a second i thought it was you, and then I stepped back and looked. the passenger roll bar and the trunk deck told me. ;) Sorry to here this from anyone though, but it does point out in the writeup about the snap steer these cars can experience.

This could happen to anyone regardless of setup when you get into a turn too hot with a short wheelbase car, especially if it's front heavy. I've saved mine a couple of times by remembering to stab the throttle and getting the weight transferred back to the rear for some bite. Let up too much or go for the brakes and you're done. Dan (the wrecked Dan) was quick to point out that it was his fault. Know your limits and don't drive any faster than your guardian angel can fly.

Tom, don't you think the temps (air and tire) probably had a lot to do with it? I've found mine to be very predictable in turns or areas where the back end got away a bit. I usually let off the throttle, don't touch the break and steer in to the slide and it straightens back up pretty quickly. Mind you, I don't take this for granted, but that is what has happened the handful of times it has happened. I would just be sick over this especially since I don't posses the skills to rebuild it like he does. Looks like the crush zones did their jobs and he walked away. I posted this with some humor (Steve took it hook line and sinker) and with a lesson in mind too. Glad you two got it.

There are plenty of factors that could have contributed for sure. There's a pretty good chance that nobody could have saved it especially if there was fluid of some kind on the ramp like some have speculated, that's why I didn't take any shots at 4-link cars. Just a good reminder to watch out for the unknown. The car did do a good job of cushioning the blows and protecting the driver and that's comforting anyway. For some reason, I noticed the trunk hinges right away and knew it wasn't you.
