Hey, you coupe guys - Why the variations in wheelbase on the replicas vs the originals?

The original is listed at 90" wheelbase, same as the Roadster. Factory Five is 95", Superformance is 93.5". I think the Shell Valley is 90" (not confirmed), and Kirkham is listing theirs at 90"

I understand the stretched wheelbase is to accommodate easier access, but does 3.5-5" make that much difference? Where was the length added?

Always fascinated by the coupe, and have to admit, air conditioning and dry is really appealing.

Are there any other manufacturers of a coupe still in business? I think Lesher is gone but not sure. Any others

? ? ?

I think you should pick up a Kirkham, all though the Superformance is nice too. :D

My understanding is the original Coupes were built right on the roadster chassis. Not sure why FFR extended the length other than to make ingress easier. I believe a few inches are in the cabin, and the rest in the engine bay. I am currently working hard to make mine into the cool and dry car it should be.

According to the brochure, "...we started out to make an authentic 90 inch wheelbase Coupe....That first 90" wheelbase prototype was simply too small. So we made the difficult decision to increase the vehicle dimenstions. But we didn't simply stretch the wheelbase, rather we enlarged the entire vehicle about 6% to maintain proper scale...."

That's why it's so roomy!!!!!

Bob I'd have to say roomy and coupes doesn't go together. I guess it's a matter of perspective. Mike Marshall was going to put a 250 weight pound limit in his door jams.
