Automotive Photography

Here is the panoramic shot I took at the picnic. This is the first panoramic shot I've ever taken and it's in HDR (I don't do many of these) since the lighting was so harsh with a lot of dynamic range. I think it needs a little work, it's a little surreal looking for my taste, and the lighting was horrible. I'll post more as I edit them. You can see a larger version by clicking on the photo, then clicking on the magnifying glass on the flickr page, selecting "View all sizes", and then on "Large 2048"

Lighting may have been horrible, but these really look good. The advantage of HDR from what i've seen is improving bad lighting conditions. Sometimes life isn't full of perfect lighting conditions :)

Hdr?

HDR = High Dynamic Range.

You basically take multiple exposures (overexposed, underexposed and correct exposure) of the same image and then combine them in post processing. Digital cameras are limited in what they can capture from the darkest to the lightest part of an image. In situations like the picnic where the sun was shining brightly through the trees creating high contrast areas on the cars if you take just one exposure the spots the sun is hitting will be blown out and you'll lose detail in the dark areas. The solution is to take multiple exposures. The overexposed image will capture the shadow detail, the underexposed image will capture the detail where the sun is hitting directly.

Thank you guys, it helps that I have good subject matter to photograph...no matter how many shots I take of my wife's Honda Accord I can't get them to look nearly as good as my worst Cobra shot.

Tim and Paul,
I'm not very happy with these, I don't think I did either of your cars justice. I wasn't able to overcome the high contrast, I'll have to try again...
