The price to play is going up SUBSTANTIALLY. (Or may it already has and I'm just noticing )

I recommended an oil pan that I purchased for my GT40 from Aviaid. I paid $595 for it in January, 2024. He wrote me back, gasping: Current price is $995

I go to Shapiro Metals for all my steel, stainless and aluminum products. A typical trip a couple years ago and I would spend $20-$30. Last week, I needed a couple pieces of aluminum sheet. $85 - Ouch

Speaking to a potential member, he commented, "I am thinking that my budget for a moderate build should be $65,000" (That number used to be touted as $40,000)

You'll notice I've left out any comments on filling a 15-gallon tank with 93Premium, twice in the same day.

Sorry guys, if you're gonna drive a Cobra, you will have to step up to the new reality

I started to buy an Aviad pan, not talked myself out of it and bought a Canton pan instead. The Aviad met my dimensions needed, but the Canton was almost half the price and it's working fine.

It is what it is on the cost. Hasn't slowed my driving down much. I think I'm approaching 2,000 miles since reassembly in March.

I've been telling people wanting to know how much a build these days would cost and I've been telling them 50k on the low end and 65k on the upper end.

And the reason why it's almost better buying an assembled and painted car and modify. 🤔

Tell me about it! I've already got more invested in my Coupe build than my finished MK4 cost me and I still have at least another $20k in costs to finish the car.

When the MK5 came out I made a build sheet to see what it would cost. Complete kit with IRS optioned out with all the goodies, Wilwood brakes, sway bars, etc. drivetrain and paint. My guess was 90-100k to finish. Might as well buy a Backdraft and not have all the work.

Bite your tongue young man..
Just now priced out a complete kit with a free IRS upgrade that they are offering now and it came to $40K.
Ford Performance 427, intake, carb, flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, pulleys etc. $20k
Paint $20k
That’s $80
Still need fuel system.
Miscellaneous nuts, bolts, fluids, powder coating, nicer carpet, leather dash and door cards etc. etc. etc. etc.
Yeah 90k easy with a simple carbed motor. Add in a stack fuel injection and boom!

A new Backdraft can easily hit $135-$150k for a 427 or Coyote with IRS.

True, but I see used ones with only a couple thousand miles on them. Basically new for a $100k and less. If you went over the top on a MK5 you could easily reach that price now days. My point was you could get a quality car for the same price without the time spent building. I truly enjoy the build stage. That’s what got me pricing out the MK5. I couldn’t justify it. Not going to happen. My MK4 is just fine.

This car advertised on Facebook is a good price and leaves some wiggle room to make changes as needed.

Tony, you're not getting the engine & transmission completely dressed for $20k, unless that's just a plain Jane engine. So your $90k is going to be tight:eek:

But, you can find really nice fully built Cobra's on BaT for $60k to $90k. Including a lot of Backdraft, Superformance and ERA.

EX...Backdraft with Coyote that just sold for $65k!

Exactly!!! I priced a ford performance 427w with all the major parts from carb to transmission and it came to $20k.
That’s my point. To build a complete new parts MK5 you will be minimum $90k plus. Paul and Tim said $65k. I don’t see that happening now days.
Maybe if you do all donor parts and paint it yourself.

Exactly the other point I was trying to make. You could buy a used Backdraft or even a Superformance with only a few thousand miles for less than $90k and be driving not building. Factory Five has become too expensive. Makes no sense to have to build for the same or more $ when you could buy and be driving.
