This was hard to write and I debated posting, as I don't want to feed into the panic, but I do think communication and being informed is critical.

My sister called me late last night, almost in tears and very weak.
Her daughter-in-law was tested positive for Coronavirus yesterday.
She's in her later 20's and in the medical field.
She started coming down with symptoms late Sunday. She is starting to feel a little better today. (about 4 or 5 days)
They just tested her yesterday morning because she is in Healthcare and they turned around the results within just a couple hours.
They live in Oletha, Kansas and my sister and her son (all live at the same house) also started symptoms Sun/Mon. The authorities said they won't test my sister or her son, they just assume they have it also.
My sister said this is the worst she's ever felt in her life, slight fever ~100.4, hurts/aches badly head to toe, seems to have lost smell & taste, but fortunately no respitory difficulty.
YES they are quarantining at home! And fortunately for us, Ann & I have not seen her in almost a year.
I feel so bad for her and thought about her all evening. I'm at a loss for what to do for her, just praying.
Please join me in praying for her and her family.

Friends, please take this shit seriously. And help & pray for your friends & family on the front lines of this fight against the virus.

I'll post back here as I get updates, so we can all understand what is happening and what to expect.
Don't believe everthing you read on Facebook and please do not attempt any STUPID Cures! Besides the couple that attempted Hydroxychloroquine and took chloroquine phosphate that killed him, I've seen claims of gargling with salt-water (useless), and also gargling with Bleach (this can kill you too).

Yep, the world gets real small sometimes. A wake up call on how delicate life as we know it can be.

My sister Txt'd me this evening she is feeling better, but still pretty bad.
Yes, thankfully, seems like the lesser version, without the respiratory complications. We're hoping a full recovery.
I was just surprised with the low number of cases in Kansas (they have fewer than Missouri) that it effected them. Their odds were extremely low.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, that phone call from her last night was pretty scary.

I'm glad she's feeling better Mark. It's all a little scary. We just have to be calm and take the precautions. My sister and brother in law work at Mercy South out in Festus. I'm always thinking of them. Our neighbor has been working on HVAC for the hospitals with no mask or anything and they wouldn't give him one. You guys take care and keep each other safe.

Sorry to hear about your sister, but sounds positive praying for her and her family.
Everybody stay safe.

How’s things lately with your sister..? to close to home I’d say.
For those that can “flatten the curve”... just saw stats Italy (10,000 died thus far) Spain @ 5,000. I believe US is in a “Ramp Up” mode... NYC-NJ-CT out of control.. it seems... sadly most are not following suggestions. People are not listening... STAY INSIDE...

YES! Stay home, now if we can get the non-compliers to listen, maybe we can get this turned around.
Thanks for your continued prayers and thoughts. My sister just txt'd me and said her fever is down to 100.7 (it was 101 yesterday) so still improving. She said she was close to wishing death a couple days ago, it was REALLY bad.

Ann & I Facetimed Happy Hour with my friend (Anesthesiologist in Columbia) last night and he said this was very bad and he was scared of how much worse it could get. We need to stay vigilant. Try to combine trips to the grocery store with your neighbors to minimize exposure, especially those at increased risk. I picked up a couple items for my elderly neighbors. We need to help each other too!

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm working but Ann filed for un-employment, no events for at least the next month. All of those April and even some May weddings/receptions are canceling. We'll be ok.

My sister txt'd me late last night.
Her temp was now down to 99.5 and she was not hurting / aching as much.
My sister's daughter-in-law was also experiencing very similar symptons and still very fatigued and sleeping alot, but she's improving too (I take all of these as VERY good signs).
FYI, my youngest nephew (late 20's) experienced much milder symptoms and is almost fully recovered now.

fortunately, I don't think any of them had the respitory issues, but I won't know details until we talk to them (from a distance!).

It's good to hear a first hand account, and realize there are positive out comes.
Everything on the news makes it sound like this is a death sentence.

Just got word this afternoon...very dear friend in Ft Worth, let us know his sister (Rita Webb) great lady and did travel arrangements for all of for years...just tested positive for COVID 19... comes close to home... prayers for Rita...

Update:
Just to let you know how unpredictable this virus is, I reported that my sister's symptoms and fever were reducing back to normal. On Monday she was down to 99.5 and feeling better. She txt'd me last night that her fever was spiking again yesterday back up to 100.8 and she was feeling lousy again and constant head-aches, so my nephew took her to a doctor yesterday. She had chest x-ray done and that looked good (very thankful for that) and they are waiting for the other tests to come back.
Unfortunately her recovery is up&down, but we are optomistic that she is still improving, may take longer than she hoped. I think today is day-10 for her.

Ann & I also had a stern conversation/intervention with my 80+ year old parents in Florida, Monday night. Their neighbor next door (just recovering from prostrate cancer Chemo treatments in the last month! WTH??) came over to visit and chat with them on Sunday! Their other friends dropped off some groceries for them and stayed to visit as well. Last week they went to one of their other neighbors house for a social-distancing happy hour. (all of the chairs were supposed to be 6 feet apart, but friends pulled them closer to talk! They knew better, but didn't want to be rude to their friends. We told them ABSOLUTELY NOT. My father has a heart condition and my mother has serious respitory issues (hospitalized 4 times in 2018 because of it). We explained that they are Super high-risk as a result.
Not a fun conversation to have, they said they know, and agreed not to leave their house or invite anyone in.

These are NOT FUN TIMES!
PLEASE take care of yourselves and don't push the limits of social-distancing. If you don't NEED to go somewhere, then don't.

They're 80! They can do whatever they want...I know I would.

If our decisions ONLY affected ourselves...at that age...I would agree with you.

But those decisions affect everyone they come in contact with and could have fatal ramifications for others.

Would you be comfortable knowing that you made a personal choice that cost someone else their Life?

What like speeding on the highway, or racing, even on a track?? Sorry this is not a death sentence, MO has one of the lowest fatality rates in the country, 1.4%. Is it a risk, yes, but so is driving to the store, so is smoking, or drinking.

Hey Mark, thanks for sharing and reminding others about how real this is. As someone else mentioned, the world gets real small.
As far as what maybe you could do ? May sound silly but food can really perk people up, I know it does me and if you feel under the weather who wants to cook ?
Could you have some Bread Co or Pasta House, someplace nice deliver some nice meals for lunch and dinner over the next couple of weeks here and there ? And don’t forget desert, lol. Gotta have that .
Just a thought.
