Trailer Shopping

Congratulations Tony! You may also find other uses with the enclosed trailer?

I store my enclosed trailer and boat trailer at Keevan Brothers RV&Boat Harbor off Hwy N in Lake Saint Louis. They have several storage locations and rent depends upon space size. I pay annually and with the discount I believe it is around $32-$33 average per month.

Yeah man, this is the place...if you decide, TELL JESSICA YOU WANT TO PARK NEXT TO TURNER...move that old beat up camper down into the back...congrats on your purchase! You will love it! Great decision on Viper Sales....Dennis stands behind he stuff... WELCOME TO TRAILER LAND! Another user of eTrailer here.
They have been instrumental for buying hitches for our vehicles and locating parts to rebuild two trailers at the farm.
Their web site is great.

Can you imagine a trailer with that many stickers!

Absolutely...where EVER I GO, No doubt about REMEMBERING...I was there....”oh that was you with the Cobra Trailer.... love the stickers”.....love my trailer, love my stickers....

Hey Tony, not sure how versed you are with a trailer, especially your NEW one. I had pulled a boat before, but never had “loaded” a car into one...especially your PRIZED COBRA. I may be volunteering TIM MAULDIN, but he took the time to come out to my house and walk me through everything I should pay attention to....walked me thru loading, unloading, tie downs procedures, and it really helped me dealing in the unknown. I would recommend you get those BACK SISSOR SUPPORTS that go under rear corners IF YOU ARE NOT HOOKED UP TO YOUR TOW.VEHICLE. Probably ETrailer has what you need or Amazon... anyway a screw up on my side, went to load car with Barbie directing standing inside front trailer (oh did I mention I was NOT hooked up to car) drove GRACIE up the ramp ready to go AND THE ENTIRE TRAILER JUMPED UP INTO THE AIR, threw Barbie up then down...not good! A very good learning experience...ain’t doing that again! Now I have to pay Barbie $100 to stand in the trailer during loading, or I am on my own....truly I can load/unload single handed....and ALL OF THIS IS DUE TO TIM SPENDING TIME WITH ME to get ‘er done....thankful Sir! OK Tony welcome to the fun, you are IN now 100%.... oh you may need SIDE MIRROR EXTENSIONS Safety measure...I think ETrailer has them all by Vehicle make and description... ok Congrats again...well done...!

Thanks for all the advise and tips guys. I'm sure I'll have more questions. Really looking forward to getting out with a painted car this year.

Found the tie-down link (Rich has these and I think Keith does too).
VULCAN Classic Rolling Idler Single Strap E-Track Tie Downs

Make sure you get the ones that fit your E-Track, some E-Track runs vertical, some horizontal.

They are great and easy to install.

These are what I bought and have passed along their recommendation to everyone buying a new trailer. You need to buy the track for them from Truck and Tow, it's a vertical track, and all I've ever seen locally is a horizontal tack.

Question Tony: Does FF5 have welded tie down loops under Car/back? Backdraft does, thinking all do? All I have is two hookups up front, and two on rear...just click my tie down into this hookup..hook to my D ring on my front track ...repeat on rear...racket them tight (be in neutral)... Smaug as a bug, done. I’ll text you a pic of these hook ups welded to frame.... never used the OVER THE TIRE STRAPS.... PITA it looks to me? Trailer Boy over and out...

I'm having the E-Track installed while the trailer is being built. That way it's recessed into the floor and welded to the frame. I'll have to see if they use vertical or horizontal track before I buy straps.

No. On FFR there is only loops on the front. Have to go over the axle on the back. (PITA) I've done it both ways on trailers I borrowed. I prefer the over the tire straps.

Tony. I have a FFR and I use fixed length straps in the front so I only have to ratchet the car from the back end. It’s quicker than ratcheting all four corners and the back is easy access.

I run the double ended axle wraps through my wheels vs around the axles,no climbing underneath!

I secure the wheels/tires, I had heard it wasn't good to strap down the frame.

Yep, Mark you are correct. I was about to post the same. It is best if the suspension is free to move, otherwise when the suspension compresses as the trailer bounces, the strap can loosen slightly, then snap back tight. Not good on the straps or the mounts on the trailer. I used to strap to the rear frame, didn't like the idea, and went back to looping through the rear A-arms, IRS car.

Hmmm, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you cannot tighten a ratchet strap, with the nylon type straps, tight enough to compress the suspension. and yes, I'll buy you a beer if you can do it and show me with a tap measure....

a tap measure. Is that a reference to the amount of beer you're buy? (sorry couldn't resist)

Goodness...my straps are precut to length needed...3’ ....Gracie has welded tie down brackets front/rear. I do not crunch down the suspension on the car; front straps pull car tight against the wheel chocks, then rear straps pull it backward making all secure. Front straps have a tug a war with rear straps, it’s a vertical thing not a horizontal thing. Gracie sits very secure in this manner. So glad Backdraft has these brackets, if not, would probably have to use over wheel set up to secure it for travel.

You mean to say, the frame won't lower on my car when I tighten the ratchet straps? REALLY
Ian, you ever ridden in you trailer and watched your car as it's towed? I'm not saying they way you do it is wrong, just having the suspension free to move is preferred by many professional tow people.

Yep, exactly what I'm saying. I don't think YOU or I are strong enough to ratchet it to a point compressing the suspension to zero travel. I attach to the rear axles and to the front of the frame playing tug of war as Ian said. The angle isn't steep enough to compress the suspension.
