This Fall I'm planning a trip in the GT350 with stops at Ford Performance Driving School near Salt Lake City, and visiting friends in San Diego. Along the way I'd like to see the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, the several National Parks in Utah, Peterson's Auto Museum. Driving the Pacific Coast Highway, Angeles Crest Hwy, and Palomar Mountain roads are also on the list of things to do.
What are your thoughts on "must see" stops on the way? Any special scenic/challenging roads to drive? Also, can you recommend any trip planning websites or apps? Thanks, Gene

Pacific Coast Highway (PCH 1) from San Francisco to Los Angeles is a bucket list drive. Monterey, Big Sur, Hearst Castle, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, Santa Barbara. It really is a trip of a lifetime.

Hearst Castle will show you how the 1/2 of 1% lived

Tim,
I've glanced at those sites a while back. I'll give them a closer look. Thanks. Gene

Paul is right...it is a amazing drive. I had the opportunity to drive it many times when I lived in CA.

But...be advised that Hwy 1 is frequently closed certain hours of the day and sometimes multiple days...due to rock slides with construction taking place constantly..
Always check with Caltrans first before heading out:

Also the best days to drive are mid week. The weekends can be hair raising encounters with large numbers of motorcycles and ricers running way beyond their abilities.
Traffic can back up miles after an accident...and they are frequent.

One cruise not to overlook while you are there is the route filmed in Steve McQueen's 1969 car chase in "Bullet":

Not as exciting as the movie...but fun to retrace some of the better road segments and scenes...

agree with Paul & Kerry, we did a family vacation about 10 years ago from LA to San Fran and we still talk about it.
also toured Hearst Castle, didn't think I'd like it at all, but I was dead wrong. you've got to stop & see it. worth the trip, although it's in the middle of nowhere. (talk about eccentric!)
the drive is beautiful along the coast, we did it in a mini-van, would love to to it in something more fun! L.A. was "interesting", but a little too Plastic and dirty for the family. San Fran was MUCH better!

Gene,
Mike Moen, D Coupe guy in Springfield MO, is planning to do the Cannonball Baker route on his own in the Fall. He was looking for people who might want to do this with him.(Not much sightseeing, since he wanted to see if he could do it in 40 hrs). If you go and finish, he buys dinner at Portofino Inn Restaurant!

I used the 3M 90000 Paint Defender spray-on clear bra, right after mine was painted and before we drove to the London Cobra show.
I think it worked well as against road chips and protected the paint.
A little time-consuming to mask off everything and removing it was also time-consuming, not hard, just time-consuming. Applying lightly to avoid runs, is detrimental to removing it.
I like the stuff Gene posted, as it looks thicker and easier to remove.
I'll probably try something again, when I have the time.

I'll take a look at the 3m defender. I've tried plasti-dip in the past and it always peeled when I pulled off the taped edges. Clear adhesive film paint protection is more permanent that I want. Gene
