Facebook - AC cobra 427 group

Just joined, there is another that I got on too, but can't remember the name. How do you get to the list of pages you became fans of?

On the bottom left of the FB page is a toolbar. On mine, the third icon over is "Groups" (looks like 2 people). Click it and it should tell you all of the groups you belong to.

I'm guessing you're a member of the Don Johnson look-alike club.

Um, ok, so ya'll don't do Facebook, annnnnddd your point is to the topic at hand?

Just didn't want Mark to feel like no one was paying attention to him? :D I get it. Thanks for clearing that up Mike :)

It's a nice way to suggest to people you care about that the time / benefit ratio of Facebook, Twitter, et al............sucks.

They are all time sponges with no discernible benefit.

It's great if your a Pre-pubescent teenager looking for an ego boost while reviewing all the "friends" you have accumulated. Not so much for an adult with higher priorities.

More questionable platforms for the insecure "look at me" croud....

The very same croud who can't go through life without feeling a need to be connected through a cell phone 24/7.

But of course that only the opinion of one over-the-hill old fart... I'll stumble off my soapbox now.

I'll go with the overthehill fart :) I do find it a great way to keep up with family and friend stuff and has nothing to do with how many I have, more to do with who. I don't get twitter, even though I do find Blake Shelton's tweets entertaining. Same could be said about a car forum too though Kerry

Yeah...but I'm retired and can piss away the day if the mood strikes. Ah....your at "work"...right?

Just don't confuse the core purpose of a Car Forum to be entertainment.

I always thought it was to exchange car /building related information...and to help out those with tech issues.

That's really what has made FFcobra.com the exceptional resource that it is.

Somehow we seem to spend far more bandwidth on non technical, "entertaining" posts. But...that may be what the masses want.

Besides...you need to be working on buying that trailer... before I do....

I have too many married friends that have used those sites to contact an old girlfried. Would they have looked through the phone book and called her? No. Would they have written her a letter? No. But people think online is harmless enough, I don't agree.

As we all know, people say and do things online they would not do face to face. This is why I live by the quote: "Facebook is not in a happy home"

That's just me, and yes, my wife is on facebook!)

Kerry, I guess we can agree to disagree. ;)

I find it hard to share pictures with my sister in KC, both of my kids @ MIZZOU, and my folks in Florida. Reaching out and touching them is a little difficult. I speak to all of them on the cell-phone weekly (or moe often) as well.

I guess the good news is that Mark can get rid of the Off-Topic forum, because that doesn't have anything to do with cars or technical issues and is the biggest waster going.
(just ribbing you.)

I don't twitter yet, but I do cell, txt, and visit friends on facebook.
I agree that some folks take it to useless excess, but the same can be said for alcohol and other vices.

I know I waste a lot of time on FFCobra, but it's my time and that's what I enjoy.

I was just offering it as another communications tool to anyone interested.

Agreeing to disagree is not a problem...
That's why we are all different with different priorities and different methods of solving challenges. We may not agree, but at least we both understand each other's positions clearly.

Personally, we like to use Photobucket to share photos with family.

However, I never could understand the logic of texting on a cell phone when you are paying for transmission of a message that could more easily and quickly be placed verbally.

It also seems that texting has helped to create public acceptance for poor communication skills. That's not to say we all should use only the King's English, but good communication skills are important. As much I would have disagreed as a teenager, my English teachers were right. Being able to communicate well, opens many doors in life that would otherwise have remained closed. We are judged fairly or unfairly by how well or poorly we communicate. Texting detracts from important lifelong communication skills.

An example....I communicate every week with soldiers in combat in Afghanistan and until recently in Iraq. These are intelligent men in their 20's and 30's who certainly graduated high school with a number having college degrees. I am constantly STUNNED at the poor spelling and grammatical errors in their messages. Many of these errors are obviously the result of texting. At times, the errors are so bad that the meaning of the message is open to interpretation. Some of the blame for these poor skills also must be born by the public school systems that were charged with educating these men. It is, at times, very depressing to see rudimentary communication skills lacking in these young people.

I agree too with Craig that Facebook and Myspace are primarily social sites that seem to be substitutions for direct personal interactions. And yes...Kathy tried Facebook...but lost interest after she received inappropriate contact from male strangers.

We both used to IM on Yahoo and stopped because it became a tremendous time sponge that we could no longer justify.

You are absolutely correct that these technologies can be abused just as any vice. It simply seems that there are far more who abuse these technologies than those who use them responsibly.

I don't text either...fear of carpel-thumbs. Hell arthritis is bad enough now I don't need anything else.
Use the cell phone when needed.
