Why do we chose to attend an event? I would like to know because we can affect the Run and Gun event. We can make it into just about anything we want. I will be anxious to hear your replies.

Hey Dean: I'm more of a cruising, watching & hanging out kind of guy. I'm not a real competitive kind of guy, so competing to win a trophy in a race or a car show is not my kind of thing, but if someone else likes to, thats ok too. I would certainly be interested in hearing your thoughts, because you have a great more experience in this stuff than I do. Your friend Dave

Dean,

This is shaping up to be the best of both worlds. Having attended the last 2 years and talking to alot of folks its seems to me that the big replicar events (Knot's, London, Carlisle) are mainly focused on show/shine (recreation) or racing. The way I see it, RNG can be the best of both. Having not been to the other events, maybe we should take the best qualities of the each of these national events and roll it into the RNG. Call it a "best practices" event. Dean, thanks to your leadership, we are headed in that direction.;)

Dean,
I like the London show because I get to meet all the people I've talked to for so long on the forums like FFCobra and Club Cobra. The London show started off with only a hand full of cars and has grown into what it is today. Doing something like that here I think quite possible. Heck, we have a hand full of cars and RnG to start with.

Mike,

Missed you at the Easter Show this year. I am the guy from Boeing that met you at London last year. I am also in the club that puts on the Easter Show.

Hi Clyde,
The Easter show is one I look forward to all winter and I usually go no matter the weather. This was a little too much though. Looking forward to seeing you again on the 10th.

I am just jumping into the thread without much background. Run n Gun isn't all about competition. I was unable to make it last year, but I did drive in it the previous year. After Dean convinced me to register I had a blast! I like to drive fast and test myself. If you are slower than others just wave them around. To me it was all about improving my time. Everyone there respected my car as much as I did theirs so it was not cut throat competition.

Oh, but I have to mention I did win the novice class road event and I may be wrong(dean may still have the numbers), but my times were competitive to the guys that knew what they were doing in the small block class:D.

I think you guys are absolutely correct about what you want in an event. I would love to do more cruising at Run and Gun. Maybe that is something some of the club members could do. It would be fun to offer a cruise during the day for those that don't want to track their cars. Would someone be up for the task? There is already plenty of sitting around and hanging out with people from the forums but if we had more people, we could do more hanging!

Runngun vs. London

Dean & Others:

London is popular #1 because it is cheap! It is a little over a hundred dollars with free meals included. A bunch of cheap hotels all within close proximity of one another. Did I mention its cheap. #2 is there are a variety of fun things for everyone to choose to do. #3 is the Raffle Car.

How do we wish to change Runngun? If we wish to offer alternatives for Cobra owners who don't wish to participate in competitive racing events, then we need to discuss how we wish to go about that.

Do we want to offer a non competition package which mimics London for a cheaper fee than those who opt out for the "Competition Package?" The non competition package, in the $100 range could include cruises to alternative locations ala London for attendees to choose from. The next day after the cruise day, could be ala London, a cruise for everyone in the non competition package to a quaint local town where "Rides for charity" are offered and where vendors are located. I have such a town in mind. I would be more than happy to share my thoughts in that regard.

My ideas for cruise choices would be: #1 A river road cruise from Alton to Grafton past senic Mississippi River bluffs with lunch @ Pere Marquette Lodge; #2 Cruise to historic Alton River Bluff "Mansions." We could try to convince the owner ("Coach Toomer") of the famous "Olin Mansion" to allow tours of his home for charity. His business is YTB Your Travel Business.com. #3 Cruise to Six Flags (Maybe). #4 Cruise to St. Louis Zoo/Science Center. #5 Cruise to historic St. Charles, MO/ Fast Lane Cars, etc.

These ideas assume of course that everyone is willing to put forth the effort and work necessary to make all of that work and that we indeed wish to engage in such an endeavor to do so.

I attend these events, wanting to learn. See the posts I entered in other threads. I'd like to see Run N' Gun and Gateway Cobra become the premier source for performance seminars/show/track time.
