Ter & I did 24.6 miles this morning. We are novices. It is getting harder & harder for me to stay with my running routine. I'm gettin old. :o:rolleyes: I'm gettin the biking bug. There are a lot of great trails around Edwardsville. Ter & I have been having a blast exploring them the last few days. http://www.mcttrails.org/viewer.htm

Bikes are cool when they have a motor!
Otherwise they seem to be a lot of work!

I've been a cyclist for 25 years. I spend most of my time on the mt bike. I have taken the Edwardsville "tour" a few times with my boys. It is a very cool place ride.

I've been using mountain biking / trail riding as a hockey cross training activity for the last 10years. Great way to keep in shape and stay aerobically fit. In fact, put in another 20+ miles today (just like my hero, Dave :D)

There are trails around E'ville, near downtown, and the Katy in St. Chas.

What do you have in mind, Dave?

Got excited, thought it said "who's in to bikini's", then actually read the posts here. I'm like Skip, need a motor

The tuinnel hill trail in so ill is a great easy trail. About 1/4 mile in is an old rr tunnel you go through then about 2 miles you cross a nice long tall tressel then in about 10 miles is a dairy queen !! Is on old rr bed with fine packed limestone with no demanding grades and lots of wildlife. The full trail goes from harrisburg to south of vienna over 40 miles long, but the best part is from tunnel hill to vienna. It is really fun to see how fast you can go through the tunnel without hitting the walls.

I'll keep the pace below 16 mph for ya ;)

Actually paced 20 mph on the trail yesterday and held it for a couple miles (nearly killed me, but it felt great).

Let's talk more on Friday at the golf course!!

What about next years Tour de Donut? :D

20mph pace!!!!!! You're killin me here. You're an animal.

BTW I checked the map for the route we took yesterday & I think I must have mounted my odometer in the wrong place. We did NOT go 24.6 miles yesterday. It was closer to 15 miles I think. I mounted the 2 sensors near the center of the hub of the front wheel. I'll bet I was supposed to mount them near the very outside of the spokes correct?

That shouldn't matter, it is the same number of rotations. It is likely set up for a 27 inch road bike tire. Check the direction about how to adjust your calibration.

Dean's right. If you still have the instructions, you can program the wheel diameter that way.

If it helps you any, I have my odo/speedo sensor connected to my left training wheel :D

Have been riding for years, both on and off road. There are over 100 miles of off road trails in Mo.and Ill. for beginners to advanced level riders.
Best things you can do is get your bike set up for you, seat height and tilt mainly along with the reach to the bars. Then get into some clipless pedals and shoes and your bike life will be good. Don't forget the padded shorts!
If anyone goes riding let me know

A few more trails the wife and I have been on:
Rend Lake..several nice trails(concrete and ashpalt, mostly in the shade)
Tunnel Hill...go on past Vienna to the Cach River Winery...great food(good friend of mine owns it)
Dolan Lake...east of Mcleansboro
We did part of the Katy trail when we lived in St Charles with my kids
I have a map of Illinois bike trails Dave...will bring it with me Friday.
Been too damn hot this year to ride much...plan on doing some this fall.

C:cool::cool:L. Sounds like we have a posse forming of biking/cycling enthusiasts. We'll see if we can plan a group event if enough are interested. BTW The cycling trail from Alton to Grafton along the river road is 13 miles 1 way & 26 round trip.

boy you really owe the guy that you thought was me a huge apology, once you meet me you will understand. sorry to say i did not make the picnic. the grafton trail was not to my liking being the country hick i am, was a too close to the road , but is a nice paved trail.
