Well, I figured out what the rattling was on my front right wheel. Turns out the bottom mount on my coil over sheared off when I went over some railroad tracks. Good news is the FFR design allowed me to drive over 50 miles back without the front end coming apart. I'll call that good luck!

Well, I was planning to install adjustable coil overs up front anyway....

They are the ones cat came with the MIII kit back in 2006. Not sure as haven’t taken them off yet. I am running FF pin drive setup which compacts things a bit more., so maybe the Konis will fit.

It turns out I had the original Bilstein's on the Cobra. I'd like to put double adjustable QA1 coilers (450#) to match the back QA1's. Does anyone know the part number for front double adjustable QA1's? Breeze has the springs on sale, but I can't find a listing on their website for the shocks....frustrating.

Rich - Did you'd say you have the pin-drive setup with Koni's? Not sure if the Koni's listed on FFR website are $600each or $600 for the pair? I need to call them and find out.

Yes I have Koni's on my car, and pin drive. I know the front shocks are the same, the rear shocks are different only between a solid axle and IRS. Standard width or IRS use the same shock.

Unless you plan on really pushing the car at track days, I wouldn't bother with the double adjustable of it would save you money. IMO.

I thought Paul had a part number for another type of DA Coil Overs that were identical to the QA1's, but at a lower price point.

I called Mark Reynolds at Breeze (where I got my rear coil-overs years ago). Breeze doesn't sell QA1's anymore (he would loose money in the transaction) so he pointed me to Vi-King Performance. They make suspension parts at a cheaper price point than QA1's. The double adjustment coil-overs were only about $50 more each than non-adjustable elsewhere, so worth the money now as I may want to really take advantage of that ability in the future. So I got the double adjustment coil-overs and reduced my spring to 375# per Mark's suggestion (he runs 400# but thinks 350's would be good too) so I split the difference. Now just need to get them on, weighted for a bit, car balanced and front alignment...again.

take a look at Jegs for their shocks. They are made by QA1 - exact same shock but different logo and decal. And about $100 cheaper when they are on sale

Thanks Paul. I did a quick look and it looks like they would be maybe $50 cheaper than the ones I bought from Vi-King.

Were those Bilstein shocks? They had a few issues reported with them breaking. I believe the Koni's have a larger shaft.
Mark, it was the early Koni's that had the issue of too small of shock rod. The Bilstein's didn't have that problem.

I have read that there have been some issues with the Bilstein's on the FFR forum, but not sure if it was due to a manufacturing issue or design issue. Either way, the Bilstein's had a rod diameter of 0.425" (0.385" at the thread where it sheared off) and the Vi-King coilovers are 0.625" diameter. So, I'm very happy about the upgrade, no matter what type of driving I'm doing now or in the future. Bigger is better!

Scott,
Jeg's has their shocks on sale for the 4th: Jeg's Dual Adjustable Shock

The shocks are QA1. The only difference is the decal and the label on the adjuster knobs. The first one on the page just happens to be the same one used on my build.

Paul

Thanks Paul. I already bought the Vi-Kings earlier this week. Putting them on this weekend.
