As most of you know, I have a new cobra on the way and I have labored over the color choice so long I have made a complete circle. What cars have you seen the are memorable? Do you like the roundels with numbers? Solid color or striped? I want to hear what cars make you take a second look. The car is being constructed with as much originality as I can accomplish with a replica. Any thoughts?

THE best place to shop for color schemes is the London Cobra Show. 300+ cobras. See this thread: http://www.gatewaycobraclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=183&highlight=London+Cobra+Show go to pg 3 of the thread for some pics. The cobra with a paint scheme that caught my eye at the 08 LCS was Samuel Jackson's cobra from the KY Cobra Club. Ford colors. Eddie Bauer Explorer colors. Goldish Green with Gold stripes. Different & very pretty.

Nobody in the club has a black car/no stripes. Red interior would be awesome.

BUT - since you're building from scratch, here's a thought - try to build an exact duplicate of an original.

Here's a link from our homepage that goes to a German site where you can view almost every single original.

Have fun for hours.

ANOTHER THOUGHT - have you considered building a "street" 427? You know, under car exhaust, no roll bar, no hood scoop, add bumpers, spoiler, etc. You don't see those very ofter either.

WOW a street 427 with a red interior - WOW.

Here's an SC - CSX3155

Dean,
I don't need to tell you anything about Cobra originality or history but if I were to build another car today it would be a solid color (red for me of course) with painted roundels and numbers, black roll bar, side pipes and quick jacks. Complete lack of bling like the originals.

You guys are right. I like the solid black. That was definitely on the short list. I love the idea of a red interior too. What part of the interior would you have to do in red? I don't know if you would have to do everything. The new corvettes still have a lot of black in the red interiors. You would have to do the seats and the dash for sure. The cool thing about all black is you can use vinyl graphics to get the look you want. I was thinking about flat black twin stripes. That is a long way from original but you could look real "racey" if you applied your graphics or strip it down to go cruising around town. I do like the look of csx3155.

Like the Black/Red idea, like a Yellow too though. One of the guys from Arkansas had the back panel behind the seats done in vinyl, I REALLY liked that. Gave the car a different finished look. Solid color cars attract my attention, but so do ghost stripes. Good luck :D

Also, check out this link - http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67990 - lot's of pics

Yeah that caught my eye too. Was that the one that had the hugh Cobra embroidered(?) in the vinyl? That was sweeeet. Almost over the top, but not quite.

Why not make the red subtle...like black seats with red stitching as well as red piping.

I love stripes with a painted gumball ...thought long and hard about doing that but was outvoted 2-1 by the other members in the household.

Hey I didn't know there was such a thing as a democracy on those kind of issues. Come on Ogie. That's your call on that one.

Dave - Your right about Tony B's car. All black SPF he bought from the Lambo dealership. Not sure if he still has it. The economy did a real number on the real estate developers in St. Louis (and the rest of the country for that matter). Also explains why I am no longer working for an architects office who serviced real estate developers.

I second what Tom says about solid color, low bling cars. It's what I have been thinking of for mine (same color as Tom's). Michelle has different ideas though...

I'm a chrome & bling kinda guy, but of course that's not for everybody. Ya gotta be careful with the bling stuff cause you can go over the top & then it looks hoakey & that's not good. Just like the guy from Ark. who had a big Cobra stitched in the vinyl behind the seats. Some would look at that & start to hurl, but I liked it. But they are replica kit cars, so to each his own. Tell us more about your new ride Deano.

Here's what I have settled on. It's black, all black with flat black stripes in vinyl. Black interior and big aluminum 482 FE with Weber's bolted to a Richmond 5 speed. All perched on a set of Goodyear billboards.

Build thread to follow......

Sounds GREAT Deano. It'll be neat to see you & Chuck out with us occasionally. That is if I can find time after I get done waxing. :D:rolleyes:

You've always been a "stealth" kinda guy :). Now with an engine that beefy, how do you really expect to sneak on unsuspecting folks and scare the ____ out of them?

2010 Shelby

Dean
I was at Auffenberg Ford in Washington, MO today. They have a 2010 Black Shelby Mustang with Black interior, black wheels and black satin stripes.

Might be worth your time to drive over there and take a look at it. It would give you more perspective on the color choices. It looks mean.

Interestingly, the stripes are done with vinyl.

Paul

Not exactly. What Paul and I are referring to is a high gloss black with flat black stripes. Almost like a ghost srtipe. The nice thing is the stripe is vinyl so it can be changed.
