Over on the Lotus Talk forum, one of the local members posted what I've pasted in below.

Not being familiar with the specifics of the Autocross events that Mike Marshall has participated in, I can't tell you what the exact differences are, but it does appear to be something different.

Since this event seems to be a little more "free form" than the ones Mike participates in, is anyone interested in participating?

So, here's a new type of event, called “Solo Gran Prix”.

Perfect for DE’ers wanting to get a “fix” locally, first timers that don’t want to have to worry about hitting a wall, as well as anyone wanting to try their hand at a fun, new type of challenge.

For just $99, Solo Gran Prix offers you a ton of runs, approx 20, with timing, on a “mini road course” designated by orange cones. You’ll take turns running the course, then working the course / watching others run. It’s fun, safe and challenging. Thank you to the St Louis SCCA Solo folks for offering this new option for us.

At this point, I need a show of hands of those who would sign up for this event. Would be held at Family Arena in St Charles, in June, on a weekend date tbd.

30 sign ups are needed, this will be posted on multiple forums, but ask around as well. With enough participants, Solo will then set up online registration for the event.

... yep it's an AutoX basically, but the intent is to "straighten" it up when space / safety allows. The big diff / benefit is that you get a TON of runs versus a regular AutoX that gives you 3, maybe 4 runs.

Sounds exactly like what Mike is doing, but will let Mike chime in, plus it's more expensive.

Word on the solo forum is it is similar to the test and tune I attended last year. I got 20 runs on the car in 1 day and only worked the track for 1 hour. A typical autocross you get 5 runs and work 2 hours. The format is alot of fun and that many runs help you really learn your car. You can also swap cars or have a faster driver run yours to see what it is capable of.

A big difference is there is no competition. They time the runs, but you have to keep track of your times yourself so bring a notepad. Once the next car crosses the timing beam your time is gone forever.

Here is a video of a run from last year's event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlKgCzRqhHE

This event should be fun. The cost last year was $60, but family arena is more expensive to rent. I don't think the format is set in stone yet.

Let me know if you have more questions.
