In an unprecedented ruling, the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced today that they have issued a recall notice on the Shelby 427 Cobra and assorted replica vehicles. This is due to a problem with the under-dash wiring harness.
This defect has resulted in several cars catching fire over the past month and each one was totally destroyed. To date no injuries have occurred. Robert Harding, NHTSA Deputy Director of Public Affairs, said the highly unusual step was taken because of three fires which were directly related to faulty electrical wiring in these limited production sports cars within one month.
All vehicles covered under this recall should immediately be taken to an ASE certified repair center to have have their electrical system replaced by a certified technician. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death.
