Interesting day at Gateway. Morning went fine with Tom turning laps a second faster than yesterday..1:13 pretty consistently. The afternoon however, not so much. First afternoon session started with the starter not working (more on that later) then the car in to the tire wall in turn 1. Knocked off the rear clip. All in all, the major damage was the fiberglass rear clip and the mass air sensor. Once we got the car up on jack stands, it was evident the Left rear had taken the brunt of the hit. The left rear tire was cocked in on the front seemingly indicating some suspension damage had occurred. Further investigation found the upper ball joint bound up and essentially had the upper suspension cocked in. We fixed that, then readjusted the rear toe-in, seems to be ok.

Then...the starter problem. Someone had an extra starter, replaced, same issue. Hit the starter button, and the solenoid would click, but no spin. Replaced the battery disconnect switch, and battery, but same issue. Ended up being the crimped end on the battery cable at the starter. Thanks to Rich and Paul for troubleshooting tips, they helped!

Tomorrow, we get to finish patching the rear clip and getting the car back on the track. I need to take these guys shopping at Harbor Freight to get their tool inventory built up. I'm good at spending other's money on tools :D Long day, left there at 7:30 or so tonight.

On a good note, I was able to talk to the timing/scoring guy about Run N Gun. I have secured an instructor from the SCCA for our Novice group, a possible photographer and was able to announce our event in front of all attendees :D So, a good day.

Come over tomorrow if you can, lot's of vintage cars there and the races are actually side by side races. Should be a fun day and the drag strip is busy as well.

Things kick off with the first regional race at 8am. It looks like Steve's group goes on at 9:45 ish.

Thanks so much for coming over Mark and Madison....got me away from the family reunion :D Left the track at 5:45, was a fun weekend for me. Got to see Steve, but didn't know when he was on the track. So, how was it driving the demo derby car Steve?

Tim:

My objective was to get acquainted with driving a front wheel drive car on the track. Not surprisingly it was different but nothing that I couldn't adjust to. My lap times weren't anything to brag about, but I at least ran close to the other guys who had driven the car before. I still prefer the Exige. :D

Steve
PS: I attached a picture of the car on the trailer as we were getting ready to leave.
