This is a very sobering exercise...some might call it a reality check for those of us who think we could be competitive as a race car driver.
For those that have not seen this video already it is of a 2009 Corvette ZR-1 setting a new lap record for production passengers cars at the Nurburing in Germany.
This is a unmodified production car with no roll bars, stock brakes...and production DOT STREET tires... The only protection this driver has is a full coverage helmet, Nomex driving suit and driving gloves.
The driver is a GM engineer...not a professional driver...but you wouldn't know it to watch him work. One thing for certain...he is not lacking on nerve...taking a LH sweeping turn at 177 MPH...and topping out at 179.
Next time you think you can drive REALLY fast...watch this video and image trying to keep his taillights in sight without someone scrapping your remains off a guardrail...

BTW...This same car has run 205 MPH on a banked oval....

I've driven this course......on the playstation 
I think my best time was 8:10 or something. There were several places this time could be improved, and the car was willing to do it. All I can say is, I WANT THAT JOB!
