And I have to replace/repair some wiring due to fire. At the track, I used what I had to get the car back on the track. Now that we're back, and we have a break, I want to repair this for longevity. My plan is to cut out all the jumpers/splices I installed (in less than an hour mind you to make the race) and re-strip, then solder and heat shrink the connections. Better ideas? Some of the wiring is 14ga, some 12, and others are just for signalling and is 20ga.

SRF(?) (Spec Ford Racer?) like this.......

Looks cool!

Your wiring plan sounds sufficient. Let me know if you need help, I have everything to solder and repair wire and know how. I also have a box full of spare wire from dieting my Painless Harness (could have wired and 18-wheeler with the kit!).

Yep....that's the car I work on SCCA races. Tom is doing the Majors tour this year. We had a fire in the engine compartment due to a quick connect on the fuel rail coming loose. Apparently, it happens as several other cars we saw have safety wire on them. This is his car:

Like Mark said, your plan is sound replace all wires you can and when you have to splice solder and heat shrink. If you want some help give me a call. Shingle boy just setting around not doing much.

Well, Mid Ohio was this weekend. I didn't go as I was headed to my Dad's. Tom wrecked today, and will be spending the night in the hospital there in the ICU as a precaution. Cracked sternum and vertabrae in his back. Seems a car spun in front of him at turn 6, which is really just a dog leg, and he t-boned him. The front of the car absorbed a lot, but the strange thing is the engine broke loose from the engine mounts and the force carried it in to the back of the driver's seat, somewhat folding it over, figuring this is when his back took a hit. He is doing ok, but out the rest of the year....soooo, my schedule just opened way up.

Tim:

Glad to hear he's reasonably OK.

Not to be crass - but does this impact your interest / availability to go to MAM on The 27th?

Steve

Sorry to hear about Tom, Hope he heals up OK hate to hear that about his back. Sounds like the car is going to need some work to get it back to race ready. Could something be done to hold the engine better or was the motor mounts just wore out.

Rick

The SCCA folks inspected the car for 2 hours I'm told and no one could believe the amount of damage the car had. Apparently a first for the engine to break loose like it did. He's out the remainder of the year, so plenty of time to assess the car.

Steve, not sure yet.....even though that weekend freed up, it will be one of the two weekends in June I might get to stay home....thinking about it.
