The Hunting Thread..(Don't look if dead animals offend you)

BBG I have over 30 sticks of deer sausage hanging in my garage right now. Your welcome to one, if I can find a good way to get it too you.

I don't know how to ship something like that!

I have a great brittany, if anyone knows of a good spot to pheasant hunt. My dog is a much better hunter than I am.

Most of our places in Illinois are not very good. Plus they are loosing funding quick....if you can imagine that.

Rend lake is about the best, all of my local spots are not very good.

Finally remembered a pic. Sorry so fuzzy it's from my cell phone.

8 pt., 137 FD. shot 7:00 Sat. Nov. 22. One shot 82 yards Thompson Omega Muzzleloader. 250 grain bullet 150 grain power.

Droped in its tracks.

Deer Sausage

I'll ask Mark if he would make a trip to Illinois. He'll probably wait for a sunny day to pick it up in the cobra which could be in December. Killing him not to drive. Thank you so much for your thoughtful offer. Now I just have to remember the name of the cheese you put with it. It's orange and usually in a long tube shaped roll. Any idea?

Lisa

Craig, that's an awesome rack on that deer! Having it mounted? Lisa, I would fully expect a Cobra in my driveway tomorrow other than my own. :D

Tim,

No not mounting it. I have a number of others on the wall, and one quite a bit larger. Can't justify $300 for another one. I kept the head, wanting to do a european mount, but the wife says they are too "redneck". Her words not mine. So I will put them on a plaque. The brow tines are broke also.

The think that killed me is, I hunt close to RT 4 in Illinois, a pretty busy road for the area. I had great sign and large scapes all around me. 2 weeks before season a NICE 12 pt. got hit on the road 1/8 mile from my stand. When I checked the scrapes on deer season they hadn't been hit for a while. I have to shoot them this size or the highway usually gets them.

Thanks,

Love the Gun!!

Ok Kerry, color me shocked I love the gun! Can I just get an upper receiver and mod it for my AR? If so, I could just swap out uppers and mags and get a different gun, but with the same match trigger pull. Sold! If it works, I'll definitely be looking you up. January and February are my umm re-loading months. I have a couple .223 , .45 ACP and .45 colt to load. But I might be able to swing an upper by February. I'll talk to you more in detail later. Thanks for the info.

Dan,

Yes... you can swap uppers easily. The only parts on a 6.8 SPC that are different than a 5.56 are the barrel, bolt and magazine. EVERTHING else remains unchanged. Even the bolt carrier can be reused.

Let me know when your ready...I can build an upper for you in a couple hours. There are some specific decisions on rate of twist and correct chamber that must be addressed before making any decison on parts. Not every barrel out there for sale is the correct combination of features.

I guarantee you will love this round. It has replaced my other hunting rifles in .308, 7mm-08, 270, 30-06, and .223. It has become the holy grail for the AR15 platform. It does everything well and better than a 5.56 in every category.

Kerry

Also...Congratulations Craig...Nice 8 pointer. Do you process your sausage yourself? Would like to do some of last years stew meat into sausage...

Kerry,

Thanks! I don't process my sausage but next year I plan to. Processors fees are out of control. And like in one of my other posts we do quite a few steers and hogs, so I just need to get the right combination of seasoning, and curing compound. I'm working on getting a friends old family recipe right now. It is very tasty.

BBG, I will freeze a stick of deer sausage for you and bring it to a meeting. Any wife who can stick with a hunting thread is ok in my book!

Duck Hunt

A couple of pics of the ducks we got. We ended up with 60 for the week, not too shabby, but not great either compared to years past. Had a great time with my brother and got to visit my dad too.

Heck my wife told me to grow it back and so did my girls. Looks like you had a good time and came back smelling of gun powder. Always a good thing. :)

Video of a Pheasant hunt out in Kansas last Friday. It was on a game preserve, still really fun :D
