Rangers celebrate with ginger ale for MVP-candidate teammate
Pretty cool to think highly enough of each other to do this.

After the Texas Rangers clinched the American League East in Oakland in September, the champagne and beer celebration quickly swept through the visiting locker room.
The celebration took place though without one key figure…the Rangers’ MVP-candidate outfielder Josh Hamilton.
Hamilton, whose battles with substance abuse are well documented, avoided the alcohol, dressed in a side office and went back into the stands to speak to a church group about his life.
But a team that has driven itself all season on unity and family made sure that no one was excluded from the party in Tampa Bay Tuesday night.
Shortly after Cliff Lee finished his magnificent performance in closing out the Rays 5-1 on the road, it wasn’t beer and champagne that was on ice in the locker room.
It was ginger ale.
Canada Dry ginger ale, from the Texas-based Dr Pepper Bottling Company, was chilled and ready for the team when the game was over.
It was a respectful gesture by a team that many thought had no chance to make a splash this season. Facing an unsure ownership situation and bankruptcy, the players all season had each other’s backs and pulled together to shock the baseball world.
As the players celebrated, Josh Hamilton stayed on the field to conduct an interview with TBS.
“I’m privileged to be a part of this team,” Hamilton said. “The chemistry was awesome, we love each other and hopefully we can take it to the next level.”
When the interview was over, the players awaited the arrival of their superstar to take in the historical moment…the Rangers first post-season series win in franchise history.
After the initial ginger ale baths were conducted, the champagne was brought out, but the special soda shower for Hamilton shows the little things that this team is willing to do for each other.
On Friday, they take on their next challenge…the New York Yankees.
You can bet they will be ready…claws, antlers, ginger ale and all.
