I was out of town this weekend, and read the news today. Steve died Friday. Steve was the genuine article. I know this because I made all of his TV spots during the 80s and 90s until he finally closed his doors. At one point I acquired many of his spots from the 50s, 60s and 70s and donated them to a museum. Steve's zest and self deprecating approach to advertising is a sorely missed relic to days gone by. I'm saddened by this news. He'll be missed. He really was one of - The Decent Boys.

I saw him several times in the last few years in the local McDonalds for breakfast. His commercials were memorable. He was a hometown St. Louis guy.

We were talking about him and his commercials almost a week before he passed away. Very memorable and a genuine nice guy.

History

Mark,
Didn't realize you were a behind the scene's force in Mizerany advertising. His approach is well known in the automotive industry. The schlock/un-glamored approach has become a classic method of marketing - keeps the image in the customers mind. and probably much better than the classic, prepared, glossy ad piece.
