Anyone see this show that featured Factory Five and the build? The picture of Dave at Gateway with his car upside down, Tom, was that your pic?

I'm pretty sure it was. They took a lot of the footage from the promotional DVD. it was nice to see how they assemble the frame and some other the other major components.

I didn't see the show but it was my picture. They called like 3 months ago and asked permission to use it. It's funny that I took the only picture of the car upside down that day, back in 99 not everyone (anyone) had a cell phone to take pictures with. I took that with my terribly huge and heavy (by today's standards) Canon A1 35mm with a 35-200 zoom lens. I was standing at the entrance to turn one timing with my old fashioned stop watch when David went through too hot and I watched it all unfold. I told Dave he should at least get in the ambulance and get checked out. His response "Tom, I'm too pissed off to be hurt" :D. For those who are going Huh?, here's the picture.

The other manufacturers could not wait to rush over and see the bottom of this "new" competitor while it was upside down. The car was repaired with duct tape on the body where it was torn, I nearly got my hand taped to the left rear fender in the rush and can be seen tucking my shirt back in after standing up in every FFR video since. The car went on to win King of the hill at this event and won the Northeast Challenge the following week after being trailered straight from Gateway to New Hampshire. A remarkable feat for the newcomers.

Very cool pic Tom. Did he hit the wall? I see some door rash. I'm trying to figure out how the sidepipe got folded under the car.
Did the car have the little /racing windscreen?

Such a neat story, you couldn't ask for better advertisement!

He did not hit the wall. Went into turn one so hot that he got real wide about 3/4 of the way through. The right tires got off the outside edge of the track and at that point he couldn't save it. As the car got all the way off the track the right side front hooked in a rut and it went over. Yes, it had the small windscreen so the roll bar did all the work of keeping Dave alive. I was the first one to the car and by then David was already standing next to it with his hands on his hips trying to figure out what the he** just happened. I swear it took him about 2 seconds to get out after the car came to a rest.
