How many times have us track guys heard this? Why not fast in, fast out? Me, I accelerate to a point where I am comfortable that my brakes will hold and brake as hard as I can in a straight line before entering the corner, then accelerate coming out. Fast in, fast out???? Maybe this will help - Slow in Fast out

Tim good find! Here is an explanation of the ultimate fast in fast out technique.

If you watch my video, at the 1:00 mark I ran it in a little too deep trying to trail brake a sharp corner and got out of shape. I was able to recover and salvage the lap, but I blew the line in the recovery. With the soft compound tires I find it hard to carry enough speed to trail brake all the way to the apex. In the video was one of the rare times I actually had too much speed.

That's a good find Tim. It is certainly something to think about.

David's running at Gateway today. I just heard from him and he is doing very well given the weather. Do you remember what your times were?

I think the fastest lap I had at Gateway was 1:40 - 1:42 I think. I do remember running a 1:48 in the rain

Compare that to my motorcycle times:
125cc Gp bike 1:10:01
600 cc Super stock 1:09:89

Track record on a bike last I heard was A 1:03:64

Tim, I think you were considerably faster than that. I would bet you were under 1:20.

The last year I was there in the GT40 I ran a 1:07 and my Kirkham did a 1:10. I know you are much faster now but you're not giving yourself enough credit!

Nope, never made it to the 1:20 range at Gateway. Randy and Brandon did, but I never did. Had street tires and was afraid of concrete. The seat time I've acquired via RnG, and track days has been invaluable and has made me a better driver. I've improved each time I went back to a track, but still takes seat time to get comfortable on the track. This article I referenced above made me think about how I enter a turn. I'm not doing exactly what they say, but pretty close, just not as fast.

I don't to much trail braking on a road course, well any time because of the pedal configuration on a F5 car. But, I do use a lot of brake, maybe too much. From Hallett/Putnam I need to take my front rotors and get them turned prior to RnG due to some small 'cracks' in the rotor which may be worse than I think, which is why I want to have them turned. My biggest problem at Hallet is getting over the lack of run off on turns 3, 5, 8 and 10. Just need seat time to get used to it and find the limit. I'm going to try and get there Thursday on the open day to try some different things.
