Serpent Express trailer thoughts

As I remember, and vividly remember ……..STAY ON TOPIC please….. bollocks!
You're right, thanks for putting us back on track! Ken, have you already ordered the hard side trailer from Larry? I forgot about the Arising Trailers. Those are lightweight, versatile and local.

I have a 20' Arising trailer and I like it a lot. Room for the car, extra tires and tools too. I've never used it for a spare bedroom though.

Hey Tim, I haven't ordered it yet, but will very soon. The arising looks very nice, also. I'm going to research them again today. A huge draw for me with the Serpent Express is the light weight of the trailer, roughly 1850lbs. My current tow vehicle is rated for 7700lbs, and the heaviest vehicle I would tow is roughly 3600lbs . We're talking about adding a winch to the front, Larry recommends a 2500lb winch, which I think will fit my occasional use needs.

I’m also posing the question to Larry, but is the dovetail to flat deck a pretty shallow transition on the serpent express trailers ? In pictures it looks pretty shallow, in the drawings it looks pretty steep.
I think I’m about ready to place an order.

I haven't had an issue with the dovetail, but I have learned to jack up the front a little to decrease the ramp to trailer angle, I dragged once, but it was easily resolved raising the tongue. I pull mine with an AWD Honda Pilot and it tows great. I believe it's a 16' trailer, I'll have to doublecheck, I forget. Larry was great with the order support.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Because of supply issues, Larry isn't offering the soft top trailer anymore. I'm looking at a 19' or 20' "hard top." The goal is to tow the cobra and other cars, but we also go to Sturgis every year with good friends of ours, and they have been towing all the motorcycles every year...typically we bring between 4 and 6 motorcycles (usually another friend's bike as well as his father's)...hoping a 19' trailer can take 4 bikes....may just ask Larry to make me a 20'.

Ok, well….ordered a trailer from Larry tonight.
20’ hard shell in black
3 rows of full length E-track for motorcycle tie down, and a row on the drivers side wall to hang tie down clips/straps…..may decide to not put it on the wall, haven‘t decided
Internally mounted spare tire
60” long side door to accommodate long driver doors
2500lb wench….figure that should be enough for the occasional use…not sure if I should get a 5000lb instead (?)
Fully insulated and finished ceiling
Should weigh about 2050lbs which will be perfect for our SUV tow vehicle.

We DID NOT do the external tool box, or the in-floor tool box….

Next question for you guys, since the SUV doesn’t have a built in brake controller, I’ll need a remote one, any recommendations ?

Really nice trailer choices Ken! Be curious to see how your gas mileage is towing vs what we get with a full size enclosed trailer?

I have the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller. It's been installed for several years but I've been very happy with it.

Thanks for the info, guys.... it'll take about 13 weeks to build the trailer according to Larry. Depending on shipping costs I may end up driving down to Ocala to pick it up when it's done...

Deposit has been sent, Larry said the trailer will take up to 13 weeks to build. if I get any pics or more info I’ll pass it along….

Ken, curious if you've received your SE hard top trailer? If so, how do you like it and what kind of mpg are you getting? Mike

Hey Mike, sorry for the delayed response.
My work schedule has gotten out of control so I've been extremely busy (I've been out of town for every meeting and cobra event since the last meeting I attended....ugh). The trailer was finally finished about 3 weeks ago. Long story short, it's in Ocala, Florida and was untouched by the hurricane. I'll finally have time the week of the 16th to go down, pick it up and drive it home. I'll let you know how it "rides" and try to post some pics as well as mpg info....
