There are always events that strike us in a way that we distinctly remember them. I remember driving in to work listening to 96.3 and the announcers, JC and U Man describing the first plane hitting and saying it was an accident and a small aircraft. Then how their tone changed when the 2nd plane hit. Watched the coverage on TV at work. Wow, what a day. :(

Being with American Airlines, We lost family and friends with 9/11.
I will never forget the time, the place, and the events that followed.
Working at an airport, you can never really grasp the emotion when every thing is totally quiet. Planes are silent, not a sound anywhere.
No APU's running, no planes taxing, everything silent.
A very strange feeling. I hope I never feel it again.

I sat in front of the TV for almost a week. Didn't work a lick. I still turn on the TV everyday since then - to the news first - to make sure nothing else has blown up. Now, I usually keep my one of my TVs turned to the news almost every waking moment.

I remember the silent skies, the flags on every porch, and the sense of togetherness we had. I rembember one message was to continue your life, support the economy, buy something - I bought a Vette.

Now, whenever some station replays the impact footage (rare even today) I get a tear or two.

The other day I saw a commentator on one of the news channels say that it will take another 9/11 disaster to re-focus this nation's determination in this very real war. I hope not, but he may be right. I just wish that more young people would stop and consider their position in the world as a citizen of the USA. Most can't even find the Middle East on a map, know nothing about Israel, Russia, or China - but they'll look at you like you've grown a 3rd arm if you can't download a song off the computer into an Ipod.

Skip - that must have been an odd feeling. It's still odd at my house. When we first moved here we were in a flight path and I began regretting that we moved here due to all of the jets flying over. Now, not so much. I rarely hear a jet overhead now. :(

Mark, you may be on to something. I noticed even yesterday hardly a flag on porches.

Tim,
Now the silence is because AA downsized so much.....Used to have 258 mainline AA flights per day, now last count was 53.

All puddle jumpers..

I really wonder why that is. I mean, I'm not afraid to fly, but I do know that my company has cut out most flights in that if your travel is within 5 hours, you are to drive. They would rather pay you windshield time than fly. I remember the good ole days when I would catch a flight to Chicago (the first of the morning) have all day meetings and be back by end of the day.
