Folks this is a really big deal.
An IBM computer plays Jeopardy.
This was a huge undertaking, and will without doubt change the way we and our children and grandchildren interact with computers. This is the first baby step towards real artificial intelligence. It's really amazing. It's like watching the first Wright Brothers plane take off - and only being able to imagine the Space Shuttle.

Here's a link to the video that tells the story:
IBM Computer Plays Jeopardy

BTW - American Made.

I think my X86 can do that  I'm not too impressed really. I mean, all they are doing is voice recognition (cell phones do that) and then writing an algorithm that selects the right answer. Artificial intelligence is just that, artificial, still written by mankind. Impress me by having a conversation. Responding with the right inflections, with the right feeling and tone.

Time this - what is your name? How long did it take you to answer that? This is how simple it is for a computer. It doesn't have to muddle through all the memories the blockages and worries of the day. It's only job is to...find the answer to the question. How much different is this than Google's active search? Long way from Terminator type computers  :D
