A new product from Lokar:

Instead of paddle buttons that require spring switches in the steering column...the Lokar has a select shift gate to the right of the normal P-R-N-D gate.
That "Sport Shift" gate then allows you to bump shift up or down as needed.

It would appear to offer a much more simplified installation while retaining the driver's ability to upshift and downshift in a more traditional method.

Was thinking you were going with this type of setup all along. All of my vehicles are equipped with something similar. D for automatic, and M for manual shifting using either the console mounted shifter or paddle shifters on the steering column. I like the looks of this much better and it's more adaptable to the Cobra "look".

I was hoping to find a cost-effective system similar to the BMW or Audi paddle shifter...but the systems out there are far more expensive ($650-1200) than the $375 Lokar. More importantly, the installation is more complex as they require a plate and springs in the steering column to provide circuitry to the paddles.

The Lokar would provide the same upshift / downshift capabilities while being far simpler to integrate with the transmission electronics.

And...I agree...that the Lokar could be made to look more "traditional" in the Cobra and you could still "shift" when changing gears...sans clutch.

We have the same upshift/downshift "Sport Shift" system in the Acura...and it works very well.

I think I like it better than the paddle shifter route...
