Any network engineers out there? If I connect two gigabit computers thru a gigabit switch, that is connected to the DHCP/Gateway router that is only 10/100 will the computers still talk to each other at 1000 or will the router drag them down to its level?

Again they aren't directly connected to the router, the path is thru the switch which is Gigabit also.

?

The switch is the limit. They will still talk to each other, but I don't think you will notice a difference in the speed.

They will talk at 1000 mbs to each other and 100 mbs to the rest of the world.
Get a new router.
The newer ones will run your entire network.

New Router

The new router is the ATT proprietary Gateway that only runs 10/100. They don't make a gigabit version.

I hooked all the fast stuff up to a 10/100/1000 switch and then connected that to the gateway.

the fast stuff appears to be talking to each other on Fast Ethernet and the gateway is passing its info over at 100.

This stuff makes Cobra stuff look easy :o
