A number of us don't have anything to do on Friday, due to the weather. I have a solution.

Each year, my church sponsors a "Feed My Starving Children" packing event. In a nutshell, it is an organization that provides basic meals to malnourished children. Most of the ones we've been packing have been ending up in Haiti. The package of rice & protein is added to boiling water and provides enough nutrition to meet daily minimum requirements for a child.

This has turned into a very large event, this year, the goal is to pack 500,000 meals (packages) and adding previous years, will surpass the 2 million meals packed for the organization.

We've had some last minute cancellations and are looking for 30 volunteers to pour rice or other ingredients into plastic bags, one cup at a time. The shift would run from 4:30 to 6:30, you'd need to be there for instructions at 4:15.

Rather than drive Cobras and look at pretty leaves, how about a charitable event participation? All you need to do is show up at the given time. Afterwards we'll gather over at our house for conversation and other nourishment. :D

You guys who aren't cruising now - and those who didn't plan to go either, How 'bout it? I need to give a commitment to the organization by 9:00 AM tomorrow morning. Weather won't be an issue as it is an indoor event.

oh, by the way, you get to wear a very stylish hairnet while doing it, and you also get to keep said hairnet.

Church is at 141 & Manchester Rd. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church - across 141 from the Costco store. Turn Right at stoplight and then into parking lot. Allow plenty of extra time for traffic on 141, it gets rough about 3:30 on.

You and Linda?

Others? One work station uses 13 people. Would be kind of neat to have a Gateway Cobra Club table. Really is kind of fun. Little competition between teams as to who can pack the most boxes in a two hour shift. In the two hr session Cindy worked in this afternoon, they packed 150 boxes - 32,000 meals which will feed 88 kids a meal a day for a year. Not Bad  Done in one 2 hour session

Oldest one there was 92, youngest was 12. Kids of all ages

Would like to help. Is it OK if I can't make it until around 5:00? I postponed my day off along with the trip. I will see if Nancy and Kaitlyn can come as well.

Yes, we can meet at the church. I'll wait for you.

Regarding arrival time, they train on the process from 4:15 till a little after the half hour, then the shift runs for about 1:45. Mike, I'd love to have you and your family there but they are inflexible on the time. If you can't make the work schedule, you're still welcome to come to the house.

Paul, unfortunately neither Nancy or I could leave work in time to make it by 4:15. Could by 5:00. If you get there and they need more help call me. I like those hair nets...wearing one actually makes me feel like I have some!! :)

This is Cindy;

Thanks, Tim & Linda. Sorry no one else was able to participate. We had a large cancellation at the last minute, leaving a big hole in the work schedule.

Anyone else, if your day frees up, this is a link to the signup page - they still need 21 people as of this writing, I've registered Tim, Linda, Paul and myself. Love to have more join us.

Those who can't make the timeframe, we'll be gathering at our house afterwards and you're welcome to come by. Please let us know.

Thank you,

Cindy

I'm picking Linda up from work in Chesterfield Valley at 3:30, so, I hope that's enough time.

Thanks Paul and Cindy for a wonderful evening. For the rest of you, we helped package enough meals for 88 starving children for a year..what did you do? :p :D
