This woman has deep rooted psychological problems. She reminds me of cat/dog hoarders. :( Hopefully there will be new laws passed to try to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Wait a minute now - is this the Octomom?

Careful here - Now you are diving into a topic that is much farther reaching than politics or religion. Believe it or not, Medical Ethics discussions and outcomes is "the real world" Pandora's Box. You (and all others) will quickly find yourself questioning your political and religious mindset(s) to fold in the medical ethics questions facing modern society.

Yes it is a deep abyss we delve/dive into with this 14 headed monster, but go we must. Onward we go to solve the moral, political & religious issues we must debate & settle once & for all.

OK dive if you must. Head first?
Here you go - did (or do) those 8 fertilized eggs have souls?

OK that's fine - then it follows that they were/are predetermined to be the children of that particular mother, in that particular circumstance - and who are we to meddle with the almighty's decision? Therefore, man's imperfect intervention in that situation would be counter to God's process.

Man has always been trying to play God. That will never stop. God is always in control however IMHO. Man loves to rationalize & justify his conduct just like Nadya has done in her mind for something the rest of us say is irresponsible. Predetermined/predestiny? No. God gives Man freedom of choice & ALLOWS certain things to occur or not occur as suits his purposes. For example Man is free to rebell against God, disobey & disrespect God but if he does not at some point in time repent & ask for forgiveness he will pay the price for his pride. Be careful & leary of pride & apostacy.

Now - you're talking about FREEWILL - the ultimate inalienable right. The problem lays within freewill. They can fertilize eggs - but should they? They can implant 8 eggs, but should they? And, it is questions like these that effect the entire world.

Like -
We can develop pesticides that make our crops safe from bugs, but if bugs are creatures of God - should we?
We can build atomic bombs to destroy the Japanese and end the war - but should we?
We can develop drugs to treat cancer and diseases of all types - but should we?
We can treat mental illness, drug addiction, child rapists - but should we?

Freewill is a bitch.

There were 6 embryos/eggs planted in Nadya & God ALLOWED all 6 to be fertilized & 2 of them to produce twins.

So, continuing the reasoning - it's all the hand of our creator, and we shouldn't second guess that. So, she's and her doctor's are OK. That has to be your outcome - which is fine. But, what if she does it again and again and again? You would have to say it's OK too.

No. Your misconstruing my remarks. Nadya & her doctor set into motion the things that occurred with their choices. God ALLOWED the results because it suits his purposes in some way we don't understand. God is not comprehend-able by Man. We in our limited capacity cannot comprehend the almighty. In this given instance God my have ALLOWED this to occur as a wake-up call to the rest of us that this is the kind of absurdity that can occur when poor choices are made by irresponsible individuals like Nadya & her doctor. No way am I saying what she & her doctor decided to do was appropriate or responsible given the circumstances.

Hold On - I'm not confused. She and her doctor's used their freewill (given by God) and their brains (a gift from God too) to make the choices that ended up with her having 14 children (also gifts from God). The problem is should they? You see the "box" has already been opened long ago. By fertilizing eggs (using our freewill and brains) we are already playing god (small g here). The scope of the problem grows because we are imperfect.

Take it all just one very small step further (because I love these discussions) - Cloning.

We have used our freewill and brains to develop human cloning. It's going on some where - of that you can be sure. So, why isn't that OK? Would clones have souls? If not, how could they be created. If they do have souls, why would we say no to clones?

Clones may be the same in physical charateristics, but that doesn't mean that they are identical in every single way to the creature that was cloned.

Clones - physically identical yes - but souls?
It's really the "edge" of our understanding - isn't it?
How can we really know.

Ha! 14 posts by two people, you two crack me up. Science shouldn't mess with things like this. You can either have children or you can't. If you can't, God made you that way and if you bypass that decision......

Now should we the tax paying citizens be responsible for supporting this woman and her 14 children ???
Turns out she is on the roles or is that the doles....a staff of 46 was required to deliver and take immediate care of 8 premie babies.
I like the discussion you have going on what is moral.

Yeah she is on food stamps. She was on soc. sec. dis. Now she says lives on student loans. :( What a sad/sordid mess & example of part of what is wrong with a segment of our society/country. There is this attitude among a certain segment of our populace that all you have to do is do whatever it takes to take advantage of/abuse the system w/o guilt or shame & it is perfectly acceptable & boasted about by some. :( What happened to the strong work ethic that Americans are known for? :(

Sorry I went to bed when you were just warming up. You are right Tim. There is a point where Science should not go beyond. Where or when that point is will be subject to debate obviously.

If science stopped we would still be scared of falling off the edge of a flat earth, still be bleeding the sick to cure disease, still believe that the universe revolves around the earth.
