MVP Track Time Putnam 4/16 - 4/17/2011

Maybe we could park a little closer to the bathrooms this time?

Car, tools, tires, helmet, gloves, shoes, and kitchen sink ;) loaded :D Car filled up with $3.86/gal 93 octane. A few reminders for everyone:

- Tech inspection form - I performed a self inspection, make sure you sign the forms.
- Make sure you have two throttle return springs on your carb
- Bring and extra qt. of oil/brake fluid
- I have about every tool you will need in my trailer, but did not have room for metric wrenches, well, I did, but everything is buttoned up and I didn't feel like putting them in  Probably what I will need.
- I have (3) 5 gallon gas cans and Steve has a 15 gallon pump/tank and funnels. Believe me, you do NOT want to buy gas at the track. If you have street tires, there is a gas station within 2 miles of the track with 93 octane.
- Cash for food at the track
- I will be bringing diet coke, water and pearl pop with foam on top :D in an ice chest

Add to the list if you can think of other things.

All packed here too.
I have to do the forms, map, and personal prep.
I have the banner and canopy, and umbrella, need lawn chairs still.
Packing the video camera and still camera.
Hope to have some time to get some decent shots.

The car - has never been better.
Runs strong. New brakes. And a "track" alignment that has really changed the personality of this beast. She handles like she's on rails. Can't believe the improvement.

I have to send props out to Mastertech. They did the most awesome job on the alignment today. They got it to -1.8 deg camber and perfect toe all the way around. THEN - he asked me to get in the car and tweeked it further to get it perfect. So, the car is set for me. I learned a lot about alignments today.

Anyway. Tallyho!

I'm still here, just been working on the car. I think I'm ready.

Tim - I'll call your cell later today.

I have to go to a Funeral today for my great aunt before I can leave for the track. I really didn't know her but i have to drive my dad. I'll be there but it will be tomorrow before you guys see me.

No problem, Jim is going with me, and he has a room as well. Sorry to hear about your Great Aunt, good to be there to support your Dad.

I was just checking the weather and Saurday looks pretty wet all day. If somebody has a deck of cards, we might be able to keep ourselves entertained. Unfortunately, there is really no place to hang out around the cars and visit if its raining. I have been to a couple of rain outs where we parked 2 trailers close enough to put the easy-ups between them and open the side access doors to create an area to gather and tell lies. Just bring a comfortable chair, a rain coat, and some cigars! :D

I should also mention that I will be on street tires. I had a set of rims powder coated satin black. I had a set of Good Year Blue streaks mounted on them, staying true to the period of course. I went to put them on last night and the rims don't fit! They are off of a Superformance and they don't work with the Vintage wheel adapters I have.

Any Superformance guys need a cool looking set of track tires and Wheels? :(

separtate thread - details?

Mark
how bout starting a different thread and sharing some details on this. What did you do? Old settings? New settings?

Paul

Well, we are here and checked in. Getting to the track at 6:30am to make sure we get good trailer spots and shoot the bull for a while. Dean, we'll try to save a spot for ya. I have a deck of cards, so we should be fine. Looks like the system is moving pretty good, hoping it blows through pretty fast.

Day went ok, Mark went out once, I was able to get 3 maybe 4 sessions in before the rain set in. Mark's was wicked loose, we're going to work on that tomorrow. Mine did ok, slower with the street tires, but 60 degrees and sunny tomorrow. Deano on the track tomorrow and Steve's car is performing really well, on rails. Jim has pictures but he has a Sony, it's special in that you can't use the memory card or a standard USB with anything else  So, no pics, but the day was ok in the morning, went to crap in the afternoon.

Great day yesterday, Sun was out, track was clean, hot and fast. Jim and Madison took some really good pictures, may take a few days to get some of them uploaded. Here are some I took below.

Pretty much the story - me holding up traffic. More about that in another thread.
Tim did great. He got better with every run. By the end of the session he was chasing down cars. Steve's Lotus was stellar, and Mike Shepard is quite the driver.

On another note - I will never ever give Tim s**t about have too much stuff. My trailer had a blowout on the way home and Tim came to the rescue with a trailer ramp jack and his battery powered impact wrench. Thanks for the rescue Bud!

Thanks guys for the Great pics. Love that Lotus. :) "Pretty much the story-me holding up traffic." Too funny. :D "I will never give Tim s**t..." Awh come on say it ain't so. :D

You pull the good tire on the same side up a ramp and it lifts the other tire off the ground. Much easier than a jack. The jack that Mark had wouldn't lift the trailer with his car in it, so he would have had to take his car out to get the jack to work. I think I got mine at Wal-Mart, maybe e-trailer. It's made of plastic.
