Muncie Drag Strip Event

Think what you want. I got over the "chicken" crap long ago. Just worked too hard to get the car where I want it to take a chance on the weather without a trailer. Good luck on the 11.5 and let us know the dyno results. Maybe some other time.

Um, yeah, right. 11.5? What did you run at Gateway? Thought it was 11.4? Whatever. There are those that have the money to fix their screwups and those that have enough to keep it going to not screwup. I fall in to that latter category. :o I want to go since I had a hand in talking fastlane Dave in to going, and to use the knowledge from the seminar, but this weather..... Think I'll take a 1/2 day off today, spend it at the ballpark, have a brewski and think about it. Heck, by the time I get home, I may just drive my car over and let Dan take my trailer :D

11.73. You just gave me an idea. Does Dave have a two car trailer? If he does, maybe he could haul Dan's car for him.

Steve

Dave's already there. He left Tuesday for the Mecum auction. That's ok, we'll get Dan out on a road course.

I can't believe all the negative vibes and back tracking I'm witnessing...

It's only the POSSIBILITY of RAIN....!

It's obvious that most on the forum have not ridden motorcycles long distance through bad weather.

Try going to Florida and back on a motorcycle...leaving for a 2000+ mile trip...while its SNOWING...

Try going over the Cumberland Pass with 32 deg ambient temp and light drizzle...with truckers giving you "thumbs up" as you pass them...

Try running down the interstate at 70 mph for several hours in a downpoor...

And you guys are getting cold feet because of a 20% CHANCE of rain....?

I am really disappointed in you guys....

Where is your sense of adventure?

Kerry

Let's see, a Motorcyclye would get somewhere around 40mpg. So for you to travel to Muncie it would take you around 10 gallons of gas at $3.00/gal = $30 or $60 round trip. For me, in the Avalanche with a trailer and a car in the trailer at 9mpg, it would take me about 35 gallons * $3/gal = $106 or $212 round trip. Now, you have no issue spending $60 for gas. Me, I have an issue with spending $212 for fuel IF I don't even get on the track. Sorry Kerry, call me Mr Negative, won't change my mind, call me chicken, won't change my mind. Call me cheap, won't change my mind....see a pattern? My reluctance and lack of adventure lies purely in cost/weather. Dan and I will be perfectly happy on a road course :D

Besides, I know Steve's new Dyno numbers, and will not be shown up by a small block, officially  :D

Ok, I will be leaving in the morning at 9am getting there around 2 or so at the Days Inn. Anything going on with the group tomorrow evening?

Have a good time.
Remember from the seminar- finesse, don't spin the tires, roll on the throttle.

Jim D is riding over with me :) so I don't have to ride by myself. Looks nice on Sunday. :D All packed up tonight, hoping all goes well.

Hello from Muncie! Jim and I rolled in at 3:30 local time. Kerry and Kathy just got here. Spoke to Steve a while ago, so all's well in Muncie. Looks like a great weather day tomorrow. :D

Great day for racing! The day started on the track at 10am. I made 12, yes 12, passes by 1:15 pm. I ran my best time on the first pass:

The track went away very quickly after that, and the remainder of my times were all over 12.0. I ran my street tires for the first 7 passes at 22 lbs. I ran two at 20lbs with no improvement. I put my slicks on for the last two with worse results than my street tires, mainly because I dumped the clutch and spun the tires too much. After my second run, I was met by Mark (yes Mark and Madison were there, more on that later) who tells me that "Dude, your left tire wasn't spinning on that last burnout, I don't think you should make another run". I went back to the trailer, and it was determined that possibly my posi clutch pack was slipping. I loaded the car up thinking, crap, Linda's gonna be pissed. I then went and got my free shirt, which I will be sporting soon for you that says "I broke my S@#T at Muncie Dragway :D

Now, for the juicy stuff:
- In two head to head matchups between Steve Fehr and his small, well, you know  a certain BBF lit the green lamp at the far end :D
- My best light was a .014! The seminar worked!
- A certain Purple F5R was the last one standing in bracket racing beating Steve Fehr, Steve Holley and Don Barnes :D
- Fastlane Dave took home one of the aforementioned shirts due to a blown clutch
- One IRS equipped SPF broke the left axle on his first run :(
- I learned a ton today from when to launch to how to launch to shifting my car better to how hot it can get in my driving suit

I came home and unloaded the car, and did 4 launches, the results look like below:
First launch

2nd and 3rd launches

Last launch

Anyone see a problem? The thought was the left side wasn't hooking up. I don't see a problem.

Now, Mark and Madison - I called Mark around 9:30pm last night and told him I was looking at a box from T&E with a pipe in it on it's way back to St. Louis with Fastlane :D We chit chatted a while, and wished he were there. He called back at 10:30pm and said "I'll see you about 5 in the morning!" So, at 6:15am, there he was! He drove all night to be with us! Mark had his cameras and mic's on the track today, I'm really looking forward to that video.

Jim Dooley came with me and kept me company and awake today on the way home. Thanks so much Jim for coming. Jim took some cool photo's, and Kate promised to get them to me.

It was a great time today, and the track there is top notch. I will capture all my times on a spreadsheet and share with you later. Right now, going to bed

Twelve hours after getting home and 8 hours of sleep I'm still tired. I hope everyone had a good time. I sure did. I've put my times into a spreadsheet, but I'll need someone to tell me how to post it.

Tim won both head to heads, with the first one due to his superior reaction time. Despite my quicker ET he left the line a full 1/2 second before I did.

Regardless it was still a ton of fun.

Best numbers ---- E/T - 11.781, R/T - .052, 60' - 1.81, speed - 122.36.

You guys missed an awesome event. We had the track to ourselves. A very relaxed pace all day. About 30 participants. Everyone got about 10 runs, and really that's all they wanted. The event was scheduled for the entire day, but everyone was done by 2. Everyone was running 11s, 12s, 13s. You guys would have had a blast. Cheap too. The $50 original price tag required an extra $10 to cover the costs. So, $60 bucks to play John Force for a day. We should make this a must do every year.

FYI - The SB vs BB war was close. David Williams was the fastest Cobra. But, a raced prepped car as you know. The fastest BB was a 598 cu in at 11 sec. I think the closest SB street car was our own Steve Fehr @ 11.9. Further, Tim ran more than anyone, and I think finished 2nd in the bracket. Tell you this - they know who the Gateway Cobra Club is now. St. Louis was well represented.

Oh - if I had my car back - I'd have something for those guys. Additionally - Dan, Gary, Mike W - you would have done something special - and probably taken the SB title. Buy we'll never know will we? You gotto go - otherwise it's just talk. Just messin with you guys.

Here's some shots from the day, and more in my gallery.

Um, Mark, bracket was taken by me. See my post above. I'm not sure if Don raced twice or not. They said we would win bragging rights, so I'm taking full advantage :D

Mark:

You're killing me. :p Isn't losing to Tim twice punishment enough? I made 15 passes with my fastest time being an 11.78. Thank God for time slips. :)

And thanks for the great pictures.

Steve, good thing you didn't come last night :D You may hear about it from the volleyball crowd at some point.....possibly.....maybe..... :D

I think Mark is still suffering from sleep deprivation, or the two five hour energy drinks and two red bull's haven't worn off yet :D
