Does anyone have (or have access to) a metal brake capable of forming 1/8" aluminum, 24" wide. Contemplating a different fuel tank and the sizes I need to bend are a little beyond the size I am capable of bending.

? ? ?

Mine can handle the width, but 1/8" is pretty thick. It would depend on the alloy?

Rich and Paul let me know if it is needed I will deliver it. It's currently at my house. I had Shapiro's bend me a piece of .090 that I bought from them.

Paul, if you already have the metal and can be patient, I can bring it into work and do it. As long as its not to complicated for my small brain.

Paul if you are going to use 1/8" material, I think just have everything welded?

looking to make a new tank by welding together two "C" bent shapes to make a box. I want to bend as much as I can to cut down welding. TIG welding aluminum and getting it leak proof is not easy and is not inexpensive.

Tony, how much did Sam charge you to make the bend? Sometimes he's pretty reasonable and sometimes not

The bend are simple: one piece has two bends to make a channel shape. The other piece has an additional bend in the bottom to taper the tank on one side. The trick is making them accurate enough that they line up for welding.

I have a little 18" unit but it struggles to bend .060" aluminum. Material will be 5052

Paul, I think it was maybe $5 or $7. I cant really remember. But if it's critical I don't think I would have them do it. I wanted just a single 90* and they over bent it. I had to beat on it to get it how I wanted it. 5052 is pretty easy to bend but I think it would still be too much for Rich's brake. Being that its the actual gas tank that needs bent, I would be nervous doing it here at work for you. If the brake is not set up just right it will leave little cracks at the bend. It the long run it could actually crack there. Have you looked into fab shops that make gas tanks? Like you said it will cost $$$$....
