Here it is finally. Some progress to report....we have color. Rick has been helping alot lately to move me along through the paint process. He came over this afternoon and we finally started laying down something other than primer. The 1st coat was sealer and that was a nightmare. We had a few areas that did not turn out so good so we needed to sand. This sealer (Nason) does not sand well and we ended up finally doing a quick wet sand over the main body to smooth things out. Rick figured we would try to lay down some color and see what happens. Well that turned out to be a good decision as the color went on smooth and looks great. We got one coat of color on everything so now the rest should be a little easier.

Thanks again Rick for all the help! We will be back at it again tomorrow for more color and maybe some clear.

Thought you would paint the stripe first.
Easier to tape off the stripe then paint base color than tape and cover the entire body to do the stripe.
I think that color will be awesome!
Going gloss on the clear or flat?

We got all of it done except only got 2 coats of clear on the body before we ran out of clear. It really looks amazing. Thanks again to Rick for sticking it out until almost midnight on Saturday. There was a major change though. I bought some paint for the stripe but did not like it at all on the test panel. We then tried just plain black and also did not like it. The clock was ticking and it was time to clear the car so I made the decision to go with no stripe. I really wanted a stripe but did not want to ruin such a nice looking paint job with the wrong color. I figure I can always go with a vinyl stripe later if I want.

Anyway here it is:

Looks Great! Nice work guys. Did I miss it in an earlier post? What color is that?

Paint code is PAV. It is Dark Charcoal Pearl off a 2013 Dodge Caravan. I liked it because it constantly changes color. On a sunny day it looks Grey but on a cloudy day it almost looks black.

Mike I can see the bug in the head light bucket. The truck is in the Cummings shop down on Hall St. thought that might be the best place for it, thats all they work on is Cummings motors so hopefully they can fiw it. Just don't know what it will COST.

Rick:)

Rick hopefully it is something simple like an injector. The bug was still alive stuck in the clear. I ripped his legs off and did a little sanding with 1000 grit.

Mark it will never be too pretty to race. Now if I had paid someone 6-10K for a nice paint job then I might rethink that. I am thinking about some track only rock guards.

Tape

Mike
Take a look at the 3M rock chip tape. Can be self applied, albeit not easy but very effective. Once applied, it is almost invisible and will stop chips.

2nd, you mean you didn't get the 6-10k paint job? Did Rick hold back? :)

Lookin good

Paul I have been checking out the 3m stuff.

It is 6-10k only in looks.:D

Rick just left and the last coat of clear is on. We are finally done painting! :D

Thank you Rick for sticking it out with me through a very long process. Allow 2 days for everything to dry and it will be time to start the re-assembly.

Awesome! Can't wait to see it on the road. You know you just added about 10 - 15lbs of weight to you autocrosser ;)

Yep but the three modifications I did this winter will more than make up for it. My next mods will add HP and take another 20 lbs out of the car so it is a constant juggling act.
