I moved into my actor uncles home in Coldwater canyon in the 90210 from age 15 to 19, I went from welfare in Pomona Ca to Beverly Hills in one day. My uncle took me to his garage to show me a car, I thought it was an Austin with a big block chevy by guessing, it had the most radical idle, the open side pipes shot blasts of compression around the driveway creating mini dustbowls in a funny pattern as the engine blappity blapped ,blappity blapped, I liked Fords but the Winternational drags I went to with my buddy who's uncle was Bob Banfield inland empire reporter for KABC for 30 years .
We got press passes, pit passes and tower side seats, Fords were not so fast then and seeing this was a Ford blew me away, nobody really knew what it was as often as who did know! My crazy Uncle let me take his real 427 Cobra out alone often , I took it on Van Nuys blvd and jousted with all the big blocks who asked what it was, it was gone! as I touched the throttle! My uncle took me out all the time, one time there was a 1976 Turbo Carerra that wanted to joust, my uncle was bogging in 3rd gear said, watch this, he downshifted and pinned me back and the engine boomed out the pipes below my head he got mit to 150 mph and I looked back and he was way behind!
My uncles best pal was actor Reid smith, he also had a 427 Cobra, the one used in Gumball rally movie, they had another buddy who was rich and had a really bad ass Cobra a 427 sc his Grandpa was Levitz furniture, Gary levitz was his name, we went to watch him on the trck and his tires puit off a puff of smoke hitting 4th gear on the straights, it was so bad!
I have some pics I found in slides of the Cobra my Uncle had he soldmit around 77 or 78 and at that time it was the only real one for sale at that time, a guy from Ohio bought it I think or he got it from Ohio I forget, I wonder about those cars today what happened to them after the guys who used to have the world by the tail died.
