Ian asked me to post this picture of his broken rear axle hub. The car is at Franjo's getting repaired at the moment. But a reminder that road hazards (potholes) should be dodged when driving these cars.

Absolutely...locating the hubs currently, hopefully Backdraft Parts has them....IF WE CAN GET A CALL BACK....not a big deal to replace...just a frustration...in getting the parts - will replace BOTH SIDES...on the rear. Monday we hope will be productive.
 
Yes I see this...interesting stuff for sure....so glad that Wolfgang is all over it, checking it out..Impressed on the extra effort! Seems we could go local? NAPA maybe, nonetheless...do have BRIAN @ Backdraft in Florida...we have reached out to him multiple times on Friday 7/16 - only could do VOICE MAIL....no call back as yet...hoping for MONDAY to get part confusion handled....WOLFGANG thanks!
 
Update: "GRACIE" is in surgery....NEW "pin-drive" BMW hubs ordered today from BACKDRAFT PARTS.COM / shipping 2nd Day UPS. Wolfgang @ Franjo Speed will work his magic soon...replacing BOTH.....updates forth coming....today was a good day!
 
Well well...good news abounds...HISTORIC MISSOURI 1965 TAG has been APPROVED....got the new registration in mail yesterday.....so we are good on this stuff....NO INSPECTIONS...into the future....NON EXPIRING as well!....glad to get this handled....
 
Ian, did Backdraft say anything about you breaking your hubs??
Is it aluminum / special Backdraft machined piece? I'm kin of surprised a BMW piece would break like that.
The only scenario I could picture from your carnage, was your wheel going air-borne when you hit that bump, high rpm, then when it touched-down, it snapped the hub. How hard did you feel that bump?
We were behind you and saw you hit it, but didn't see you go flying into the air. I was more concerned about you trashing your oil pan.
Glad it's on the mend.
 
No we hit very hard...thinking the rear caught the brunt of the pot hole...oil pan slid over it thankfully....even as it is up on the lift at the moment, no damage or scrapes are noticeable to oil pan or anything else under the car for that matter. I just finished wiping and cleaning the entire underneath with brakekleen by hand (3 cans brakekleen and 3 rolls paper towels) cleaned up nicely (sorry Paul wasn't done earlier) so in answer to the question; yes the force of the wheel catching and hitting the edge of the pot hole as we crossed over it...my sudden attempted braking and whatever else could have been factors...the loose asphalt in the hole flew everywhere-huge noise as it blew up into wheel wells...and was everywhere in the engine compartment after further checking once home. It is learned that these Pin-drives are made specially for the Backdraft cars...learned my car is BDR#924...and Backdraft in Florida did have replacements. Ordered TWO so both will be replaced, parts and bearings just shy $500. New parts arrive tomorrow at Franjo via UPS.

Having everything done; all wheels polished and clear coated/engine tuneup and Dyno to determine carburetor jets (running very lean) new plugs so all are correct/New Pin-Drives installed/tires reinstalled and balanced/USB Port installed/Oil-Filter-Fuel Filter replaced...and few other little things done....so we should be good going forward....having it looked at TOP to BOTTOM....I am hoping to get it back Friday or Weekend? A VERY EXPENSIVE POT HOLE IT TURNS OUT TO BE.....

Ugh! UPDATE on "GRACIE".......17 days at Franjo Speed....( seriously?)....only screw up now is the finishing up of the wheels...the discovered cracked one has been replaced....the "wheel guy" FINALLY says (after many bull s**t excuses-oh we will start today, oh we will pick up the wheel-oh hoping to get started....don't even know the outfit or guy...but CERTAINLY FALLS INTO MY LOSER CATEGORY...) continued false comments, just like a freaking contractor...NEVER what they say tends to pan out...so just sitting and waiting, NOT Franjo's fault....they have been stone walled by this %#^*+'re......that's the latest....surely think JULY 4th will come and go....and we leave on vacation back east on July 6th....gone for 10 days....thinking the car will just sit down at Franjo gathering dust...almost FIVE FREAKING WEEKS! Not a happy camper! Truly is a JOKE!
 
Update from Ian: "GRACIE" is 99% finished, polished/clear coated/painted wheels (centers done in sterling grey to match body-previously they were a green tint)...completed, brand new pin drives (rear) port and starboard installed-tires mounted/balanced...front end alignment most likely Friday and Dyno run to dial in carb jets/timing and various minor housekeeping things done, UBS Port installed, new looms for plug wires, polished air cleaner cover/new plugs-oil/filter and complete over/under tightening all nuts-bolts and scrub down of entire under carriage (looks brand new underneath) so excited to get the car back home....has been almost a month to the day...Franjo is methodical in its approach, and very through (Wolfgang) is a perfectionist and I condon 100%...I'll share the bill once I get it...any guesses out there $$$$ wise! YIKES!
